Technique – stencilling

Swirled Heart

Happy Sunday everyone!

Today I’m playing with the elegant colour palette for this week’s challenge over at the Color Throwdown – silver, black, grey and white.

This combo is perfect for festive cards, but I decided to take a break from Christmas cardmaking and opened up my brand new Flowing Hearts Stencil by Altenew.

I’ve been looking for a reliable replacement for my Nuvo embellishment mousses which have completely dried up and can’t be resuscitated with any of the suggestions online…. I’ve been testing out Cosmic Shimmer luna paste – I absolutely LOVE it! Very easy to apply and super shimmery! Plus a gorgeous range of subtle colours.

Once the luna paste was dry, I added a few of my new Nuvo Matte drops and a heat-embossed sentiment, also by Altenew, to complete my card.

Jolly Snowman

Hi there friends!

The Color Throwdown challenge has quite a cool autumnal palette this week – red, kraft, aqua and orange, but I decided to use them for a Christmas card as I’m in the midst of festive cardmaking for the Caring Hearts card drive.

I used a fabulous snowman from the Papersmooches Cool Snowdudes set. This was a very easy shape to fussy cut, so you may be seeing more of him this year! Anyway, I stuck him to a panel that I had created by masking off an area I then covered with a light coat of Frayed Burlap distress ink followed by a stencilled layer of the same ink. I added a few little trees from an Avery Elle die and then the sentiment from Simon Says Stamp.

I’m also entering this into the current Freshly Made sketches challenge and the Simon Says Stamp Wednesday Challenge (Anything Goes).

Stamptember fun!

HI there!

So.. September was a crazy month and I didn’t have much time for crafting, not even when my Stamptember products arrived from Simon Says Stamp! Pretty disappointing!

I’ve finally had time to sit down at my craft table and guess what… my mojo had gone AWOL. So annoying!

Anyway, I EVENTUALLY made a card with the SSS Festive Trees set. I loved this set and this particular stamp when I saw it in August sneak peaks! There are four trees which are fun to colour.

I coloured this tree with Hero Arts metallic paint which was diluted with a bit of water. It is soooo shimmery in real life!

I used a SSS stencil for the background and added a sentiment from My Sentiments Exactly to finish off my card.

I’m entering this into the current Simon Says Stamp Wednesday challenge – Christmas.

Sparkly Peacock

Happy Friyay everyone!

The theme for the current Blog Named Hero challenge is ‘sparkle and shine’. A fabulous excuse to get out the glitter paste, stickles and mirror card….. not that I need any excuse really!

I started by blending some distress ink though a Creative Expressions (That Special Touch) stencil. I then spread a generous layer of Nuvo glimmer paste over the inked background.

I used my go-to inks from Altenew for the Hero Arts Layering Peacock and cut some mirror card using a sentiment die from the March My Monthly Hero Kit. Love that font! Finally I added a few dots of stickles to the peacock’s tail – you can never have too much glitter can you?!

Glittery holly berries

Hi everyone!

I’ve been playing with more Christmas supplies that I bought in the January sales. I’ve really enjoyed Christmas in July and plan to continue it into August!

For this card I used a holly die from Penny Black and a Tim Holtz stencil. The sentiment is by Clearly Besotted.

I coloured the leaves and berries using regular distress ink and used distress oxide to create the stencilled panel. To finish off the card, I added some Nuvo red gliiter drops. I really love how these dry in a beautiful dome! I’ve finally found a way of creating dots and easily adding them to my project when dry – I use waxy paper! I had previously used acetate and a clear block but it was so difficult to remove the dried dots! They comeoff the waxy paper very easily indeed!

I’m entering this into the current Color Throwdown challenge (red, green and grey), Freshly Made Sketches challenge and the Simon Says Stamp Monday Challenge (Christmas in July).

Thanks for stopping by!

Dashing through the snow

Hello there!

I’m sharing another one of my Christmas in July cards today. Seriously, I can’t believe we’re over halfway through the month! Time is certainly flying by!

Anyway, I’m playing along with the current Case this Sketch challenge and decided to use one of my sweet Memory Box reindeer dies. I coloured the deer using distress oxide inks which I sponged onto the body with an ink blending tool. I then coloured the scarf using the inks with a splash of water.

To create the background, I applied a light coat of Shaded Lilac distress oxide ink through an Echo Park stencil and then added a coat of Tonic Studio moonstone glimmer paste! Love all the sparkle!

The sentiment is from a set by Marianne Designs. I’m delighted to say that I located it very quickly using my new Evernote system. I’ve only just started uploading my supplies to the system (that process is going to take forever!) but really pleased with it so far!

I’m also entering this into a number of other challenges:

CAS Mix Up challenge – colouring die cuts, stamping and my choice (stencilling)

Shopping our Stash challenge – Christmas in July

The Holly and Ivy Christmas Challenge – Anything Christmas goes
