Technique – die cutting

Featuring die cutting

Butterfly Wreath Hello

Hello everyone!

Today I’m playing along with the Color Throwdown! They have a super colour palette this week – blue, pink and green! The inspiration photo uses bright colours, but I chose a more pastel palette for my take.

I inked up the beautiful Reverse Confetti Butterfly Wreath and coloured it using my Twinkling H20 paints. I cut it out using the coordinating die and adhered a couple of die cut wreaths under my image to provide some depth. I added a few single butterflies from the set and a Mama Elephant die cut to complete my take.

If you enlarge the photos you can make out a very lightly stencilled background. I’m in the throes of organising my stencil mountain and I’m going to try to use more stencils in my designs. I chose a very subtle design here as I didn’t want to overpower that beautiful wreath!

AAA Less than one third and summer in January

Hi there!

After a long break, we’re back with our first challenge of 2021 at AAA Cards!  This fortnight we’d like you to create a CAS card using up to one third of your card. Our optional twist this time is ‘Summer in January’.

I was a bit stumped by the optional theme at first as I didn’t really feel like creating anything summery when it’s so cold outside… but I have been fortunate to experience a few southern hemisphere summers over the years. As I was thinking of those adventures, I vividly remembered eating an ice cream with a friend in Circular Quay and decided to use that memory as my inspiration for a fun summer in January card!

I used the older Ice Cream Parade die from Simon Says Stamp for the main image and coloured the cones and ice cream sections using my distress inks.

To complete my card, I added a Memory Box sentiment.

My team mates have come up with some beautiful cards which are on the AAA Cards challenge blog. We are also joined a previous challenge winner, Stephanie, who has some great cards on her blog.

Hope you can play along with us!

Gingko notes

Hi everyone!

Today I’m playing along with the Freshly Made Sketches challenge.

I just received my latest order from Simply Graphic so I knew I wanted to use those dies straightaway! The sketch is a slimline card and as I wanted to create a very CAS card, I chose a smaller slimline base card this time.

The background die is cut from vellum. I coloured the two ginkgo leaves with my distress inks and added a sentiment by Mama Elephant.

Vase of Blossoms

Hello everyone!

Today I’m playing along with the Color Throwdown! They have a super natural colour palette this week – rust, cream and brown!

I actually used mainly dies that I’ve bought over the past couple of months – the Marianne Designs Art Texture Squares and the Sizzix/Pete Hughes Ikebana die set, together with an older Impression Obsessions vase die and a Sugar Pea Designs sentiment.

Missing you flowers

Hi there!

It’s been a while since I played along with a Case This Sketch challenge and so I decided to hop back into the challenge this week!

I used a new-to-me flower stencil by Tim Holtz plus an older Memory Box vine border die. The sentiment is by Simon Says Stamp.
