Glazed distress oxide

Happy Friyay from snowy London! Ugh! I hate this weather, but the snow day has given me the opportunity to play with the brilliant glazed distress oxide technique demonstrated by Jennifer McGuire.

It’s so much fun! I don’t use alcohol inks, so I was happy to hear this technique could be used for a similar effect! I used regular glossy paper that I’ve had for YEARS and Candied Apple and Seedless Preserves distress oxide inks and these backgrounds came together so quickly! After applying the glaze, I splattered some gold paint on the background but as some of it came off when I was assembling the card, I think I’ll try adding it before I apply the glaze next time!

I used one of my favourite Hero Arts background dies to cut up one background and yes, I did put foam on the back of all those butterflies – it didn’t take THAT long. I finished off the card with a die from Savvy Stamps. Now I just have to hope it survives the postal system next week!

Have a great weekend!

Window on Love

Happy Saturday people!

Today is a great day as I was finally able to play with the wonderful Hero Arts Window on Love confetti die! I have wanted this for soooooo long and snapped it up when Seven Hills Crafts got it in this week!

I decided to use it to play along with the current Twofer challenge (hearts).

For the first card, I channelled my inner Laura Fadora and used the wonderful ‘Press ‘n Seal’ technique that she demonstrated a few weeks ago. Thanks for the inspiration Laura, I LOVE this technique. It did take AGES to apply foam to the back of the confetti pieces, but it was totally worth it! Once I had stuck all the little die cut images to the base card, I embossed a sentiment (from an older Hero Arts set) on vellum and stuck it onto the card.

For my second card, I used just a few of the die cut hearts to create a little strip on my CAS card. The sentiment is also from an older Hero Arts stamp set.

Yes – a lyre on one of my cards!

Happy Friyay everyone!

Well, I can honestly say that I never thought that I would make a card with a lyre on it, but here it is! I was using the Waffle Flower ‘Currently Listening’ stamp set and spotted the lyre and just had to include it on this card, even thought I don’t know anyone who plays it!! Such an unusual instrument to include in the set!

I embossed the images and a sentiment stamp by Hero Arts and then stuck them in the frame that I cut from glitter paper using a Memory Box die. I added black glitter paper where the sections were too small for an image.

I adhered the die cut to a panel that I embossed with a Darice folder.

I’m entering this into the current Less is More challenge – music.

I thank the stars

Hello everyone!

As my distress oxides have been out this weekend, I decided to put them to use for my entry into this week’s Colour Throwdown challenge. It’s another great combo (aqua, orange and grey) and I decided to use the sketch for the current Case This Sketch challenge as well.

I used the dies and a stamp from My Favorite Things, but the white background felt a little stark when I started layering the stars. That’s an unusual thing for me to say really as CAS is usually my go to/comfort zone! In the end, I decided to  use a Hero Arts stencil to add a little interest!

New Year balloons

Hi there everyone!

For this card, I finally inked up the gorgeous balloon background stamp from Create a Smile stamps. I’d wanted this stamp for a while and was so pleased to see it in stock when I placed an order with them earlier this month.

Anyway, I embossed it with white embossing powder and then set to colouring! I decided to try out the ‘Stained Glass Watercolour’ technique Jennifer McGuire showcased a few weeks ago. I decided to use distress markers. Not sure if it was me, but I found it quite difficult to move a lot of colour and went back to a number of balloons several times until I was happy with how they were looking… I have a few Tombow pens so I may try with them….

Once I was happy with the balloons, I had to cut the watercolour panel. I was a bit hesitant because I often change my mind about the design of a card when I’m assembling it….. However, I was following a sketch, so bit the bullet and cut! I ended up making a birthday card with the other half.

I layered my panel onto some coloured card and finished off the card with a Hero Arts sentiment stamp.

I’m entering this into the current Freshly Made sketches challenge and also the current Simon Says Stamp Monday challenge and Simon Says Stamp Wednesday challenge .

Distress crayon new year

Hi everyone!

I’m sharing another New Year card today! I just love creating and giving these cards!

For this one, I pulled out my new metallic distress crayons! I was very pleasantly surprised by just how metallic they are – the Tarnished Brass is definitely my favourite one at the moment!

To create my background, I coated some cardstock with Distress Collage Medium to make it easier to blend the crayons. I had originally planned to use the Peacock Feathers, Broken China and Brushed Pewter crayons but I preferred the look when I substituted the Tarnished Brass for the Brushed Pewter! Anyway, once I finished blending, I cut the background with a Taylored Expressions Background die – as soon as I saw this die, it just screamed ‘New Year celebration’ to me and I was relieved to see how it turned out. Look at that shine from the metallic crayon!

Anyway, I stuck it to a base card and then stamped a Hero Arts sentiment using distress oxide ink (in Peacock Feathers).

I’m entering this into the current Timeout Challenge (new beginnings) and I’m adding this to the Simon Says Stamp Work It Wednesday challenge as I’m using two new items – the metallic distress crayons and the background die!

Thanks for stopping by!
