Technique – stencilling

Christmas in July 2022 – Day 13

Hello everyone!

Welcome to Day 13 of LucieG’s Christmas in July 2022! Today I’m playing along in The Paper Players colour challenge.

I’ve noticed that I often use blue/aqua on my festive card backgrounds and I was determined that I wouldn’t do that this time! Instead, I stencilled some Nuvo Moonstone glitter paste onto my card base. While that was drying, I stamped the fabulous Wispy Trees by The Stamp Market using a couple of distress oxide inks and cut them using the coordinating dies.

After arranging a little forest, I added a sentiment by Mama Elephant and applied a layer of a Wink of Stella to the bottom section of my card, although that doesn’t show up at all in my photos!!

Christmas in July 2022 – Day 5

Hello everyone!

Welcome to Day 5 of LucieG’s Christmas in July 2022! Today I’m playing along in the Just Us Girls challenge where the theme is mammals. Ha! Perfect excuse for a reindeer card!

It’s difficult to see in the smaller photos, but I started with a Uniko stencil and some moonstone glitter paste to add a bit of texture to my card base and added a Memory Box frame cut from glitter card. I then used an older die set (Delightful Deer) from My Favorite Things which I cut from kraft card and sponged with some distress ink.

Finally I added sentiment from an older My Favorite Things stamp set.

Birthday circle

Hello Everyone!

Today I’m playing along with the Freshly Made Sketches challenge.

When I saw the sketch, I decided it would be perfect for the die fleur double by Simply Graphic! So I chose a couple of pieces of card and got crafty! I stencilled some Nuvo Moonstone paste on my card base and added a Memory Box sentiment plus a few gems to complete my take.

Just Us Girls Guest Designer Week 1

Happy Saturday!

I’m so honoured and excited to be the June Guest Designer for the Just Us Girls challenge!

The theme of this week’s challenge is ‘paintbrush’ – and I wanted to share the story behind the card! Sorry this is rather on the long side!

I’ve been crafting for almost 15 years…. but do I own any paintbrush dies or stamps?? The short answer is no. The longer answer is I spent a ridiculous amount of time going through ALL my craft supplies as I was CONVINCED I had a paintbrush stamp from back in the day. I was SO SURE that I even recalled colouring the image…. but ‘it’ was nowhere to be found. I did come across an old Elzybells Art Stamps set which included some fun sentiments and a small image with some paintbrushes, but I wanted the brushes to be more of a focal point….

I have a rule that I don’t buy supplies just to make a challenge card and although I could think of ways of incorporating brush MARKS, I felt I had to stick to the theme of paintbrush…. so I broke my rule and ordered the My Favorite Things paintbrush die set from my go-to craft store that usually dispatches the same/next day… can you see where this story is going?

Well, yes, this time they did not dispatch my order for 3 days and as it’s the Platinum Jubilee super-long weekend in the UK, I knew that I wouldn’t get the die set before the challenge launch.

So what did I do? Well, I went through my dies and created my own paintbrushes using parts from die sets by My Favorite Things and Simon Says Stamp!

I stencilled some glitter paste on my card base before I added the ‘paintbrushes’ and a pot. And all that searching wasn’t wasted as I even used a Pablo Picasso quote from that old Elzybells set!

What do you think of the outcome?

Head over to the Just Us Girls challenge to see the amazing inspiration from the talented design team – we hope you can play along this week!

Springtime Pussywillows

Hello everyone!

Today I’m playing along with the ‘Choose Two’ challenge at Just Add Ink.

The choices were stencilling, heat embossing and/or texture paste. Well I haven’t used texture paste for ages so I knew I definitely wanted to use that and chose stencilling as my second option.

I started off by lightly stencilling a My Favorite Things brick stencil onto my card base with Pumice Stone distress ink. Then I mixed a little Speckled Egg distress ink into some texture paste and applied it through the stencil.

I decided to add The Greetery’s Pussy Willow Botanicuts dies as my focal point – all coloured with distress oxide ink and Prismacolor pencil. The sentiment is by Memory Box.

Les fleurs graciles

Hello Everyone!

Today I’m playing along in the Freshly Made Sketches challenge.

I just love what Cecile called the whimsical fuzzy background!! My interpretation uses a Taylored Expressions abstract stencil and Salvaged Patina ink that I blended and then smooshed onto my card base. I decided to use my new Fleurs Graciles die from Simply Graphic as the focal point for this card and added a little Simply Graphic bow as well.

The sentiment is by Pretty Pink Posh.
