Heart shaker card

Happy Friyay everyone!

I just saw the palette for the Winnie & Walter colour challenge and decided to play along at the last minute.

For the base, I used a couple of Winnie & Walter stamp sets and once I’d embossed the sentiments/hearts, I added a soft layer of Chipped Sapphire distress ink.

I then got to work on my focal point – I can’t believe I have never got round to using this sweet heart Winnie & Walter die that I bought a few years ago! It’s so perfect for inlaid die cutting AND a shaker! I created some blended background with regular distress ink and cut them using the die before inlaying the little pieces. I added some sequins and seed beads before adhering the heart to the base with funky foam.

The world is your oyster

Happy Sunday everyone!

I spent a very happy morning in my craft room, playing with some supplies I put aside yesterday!

I decided to play along with the current Freshly Made Sketches challenge and use some of my city-scape dies. I love them and can’t seem to stop buying them… buy I need to use them! Do you have that problem?!

Anyway, for this card, I used the Poppystamps Urban Skyline collage die and then added a couple of buildings from a Sue Wilson/Creative Expressions die. If you click on the photos you can see the subtle embossing on the tallest building.

After sticking the scene to a blended background, I looked for a suitable sentiment – I really wanted this to be a ‘good luck in your new job’ card. You know, I have hundreds of stamps, HUNDREDS… and how many do you think say ‘good luck’ let alone ‘good luck in your new job’? The answer is very few, my friends, very few. I think I have found a gap in the market! We need more good luck stamps.

Unfortunately my good luck/new job sentiment felt a little too big for the card. So I replaced it with a Clearly Besotted sentiment that I still felt conveyed the same kind of sentiment.

Playing with Color Bursts

Hi there!

Life has been busy lately and I haven’t had much time to spend in my craft room but I was able to spend the whole afternoon in there today. It felt good to get back to crafting again! I missed playing along with the challenges.

I decided to use the sketch for the current Freshly Made Sketches challenge as my inspiration for this card. I also knew that I wanted to use this sweet flower border die from Poppystamps and thought it would be fun to put it against a colourful background. So I got to work with distress inks, distress stains and color bursts. My hands were so inky by the end, but it was such a fun session! I chose to use a background made with color bursts – I also added some cosmic shimmer powder to this one! Love how shimmery it is!

I’m also entering this into the current Simon Says Stamp Monday challenge (flower power).

You totally did it

Hi everyone!

It’s been quite cloudy here so I decided to pull out some sunny Distress Oxide inks to play with today.

After creating the blended background, I added some water speckles and then die cut a Simon Says Stamp circle and sentiment. I used another scrap of card to blend some yellow ink for the fringe (cut using a Mama Elephant die).

The embossed sentiment is by My Favourite Things.

Blended Blissful Butterflies

Happy Easter Sunday everyone!

It’s time for a new challenge over at AAA Cards, but before I get on to that I must just say that the response to the last challenge was AMAZING! So many beautiful CAS cards in our gallery and some wonderful inspiration! THANK YOU.

Anyway, this fortnight’s theme is ‘a favourite technique’ and our sponsor is Sugar Pea Designs.

Favourite technique! How can I choose just one? Heat embossing – who isn’t amazed by that process?! Dry embossing – so effective! Colouring – so soothing! TOO MANY FUN TECHNIQUES!

In the end I decided to combine a few of my favourite techniques – inlaid die cutting, ink blending and adding shimmer – although realistically I’m not sure that last one is really a technique!

Anyway, for my card, I blended some distress inks (Tumbled Glass, Shaded Lilac and Cracked Pistachio) and spritzed some perfect pearls that I had mixed with water. I then cut the blended panel and some glitter card with the Memory Box Blissful Butterfly Border.

So that the die cut would be truly inlaid, I also cut the base card with the die and then added a cardstock panel to the inside of the base card. This panel then served as a base for the die cut. Hope that makes sense?!

This is the reverse of the panel, on the inside of my card.

Once I’d inlaid the glitter outline and blended butterflies, I added a Winnie & Walter sentiment to finish off my card.

Hoppy Easter, peeps

Hello there everyone!

Here’s a quick card I made for the current Case This Sketch challenge using a couple of stamps from Simon Says Stamp.

I stamped and embossed the background stamp and then blended three shades of distress ink over it (I used dried marigold, spun sugar and tattered rose).

Following the sketch, I cut up the background into a number of strips and adhered them to my base card.

To finish off the card, I added a sentiment from Simon Says Stamp – it’s stamped with delicata gold ink. Can you see that beautiful shimmer?

I’m also entering this into the current Colour Throwdown challenge (blush, pink and peach) and the Simon Says Stamp Flickr challenge (springtime/Easter).
