Technique – die cutting

Featuring die cutting

Butterfly Stem

Happy Saturday!

Today I’m playing along in the Color Throwdown challenge which has a palette of orange, green and tan.

I may have over thought the palette here and ended up learning all about different shades of tan online! In the end, I tried to match the colour in the inspiration picture and cut some patterned paper with a Greetery die for the background panel.

Anyway, I used an older Memory Box die, the Rylan Butterfly Stem, which is dated 2016 but I thought it was a bit older than that! I coloured it with distress inks and added some orange butterflies from Memory Box’s Butterfly Ensemble and inlaid them in the stem – they don’t fill the space completely, but I think they are a pretty good match!

The sentiment is by Sugar Pea Designs.

Embracing Plaid

Hello again Everyone!

So I wasn’t going to play along with the ‘Can You Handle the Pressure‘ challenge this past fortnight as the twist is plaid. I don’t have much plaid patterned paper and couldn’t think of a ‘LucieG’ way of using it! Then this evening inspiration struck! Luckily there were still a few hours before the challenge closed and this was a really quick make!

I used the Stampin’ Up Brick and Mortar embossing folder and added the Simon Says Stamp Stars Parade die cut. I inlaid plaid, green and glitter stars and then added a little My Favorite Things sentiment.

Catalina Wreath

Hello everyone!

Today I’m playing along in the colour challenge at the Just Us Girls challenge. The colour palette is ivory, soft rose and sage green – totally the colours I love to work with!

I decided to use an older Memory Box die, the beautiful Catalina Wreath, which is from 2011! It actually belongs to my mum but has lived in my collection for a while as she has taken a break from cardmaking. I coloured it with distress oxide inks and added a few white Nuvo drops. I stencilled some Nuvo glitter paste onto a piece of ivory card and then adhered the wreath and added a Creative Expressions sentiment to complete my take.

Hello Magnolias!

Hello everyone!

Today I’m playing along in the Freshly Made Sketches challenge.

We’ve had some amazing spring time weather recently and I noticed that quite a few magnolia trees are starting to bloom! The perfect time to use my new Simon Says Stamp Etched Magnolia die I think!

I was originally going to include 3 magnolia blooms on the card but it felt a little overcrowded so I substitued the middle image for a bold Waffle Flower sentiment.

I used an older Memory Box die (Grape Vine Border) for the vertical strip.

Perfect Pussy Willows

Happy Sunday!

Today I’m playing along in the Color Throwdown challenge which has a fabulous palette of grey, yellow, tan and black.

I just got my new dies from The Greetery’s spring release and I love how Betsy demonstrated how to add a bit of colour to the pussy willow stems so I decided to use those dies with the colour combo – I don’t think I would have ever used the combo of Tea Dye and Hickory Smoke distress inks for the stems otherwise! I like how they turned out! I added some yellow to the individual buds but also sponged a yellow circle to add a bit more of that colour to my card.

I added a Waffle Flower vase and a Sugar Pea Designs sentiment to complete my card.
