Technique – die cutting

Featuring die cutting

Corner Butterflies

Happy Saturday everyone!

Today I’m playing along with the Freshly Made Sketches challenge.

I originally planned to use a leafy corner die for my take on the challenge – but then I decided to go with a couple of Memory Box butterflies instead! I used the Drifting Side Butterfly and the smaller Flitter Side Butterfly cut from Craft Consortium paper and white glitter card. I lightly applied Salvaged Patina distress ink to ground the butterflies but felt the card still need a little something so I embossed the background using the Spellbinders Flower Frenzy embossing folder.

The sentiment is by Concord & 9th.

Christmas Card Throwdown – Guest Spot

Hello everyone!

I’m honoured to be the Guest Designer for the current sketch challenge over at the 52 Christmas Card Throwdown!

I was originally planning to use a stamped image for this card, but then I decided that the background would make the perfect backdrop for a little scene with an ombre sky!

I used Tumbled Glass and Salty Ocean distress inks for the sky and added lots of glitter for the snow. For the image, I cut the Marvellous Pine die by Memory Box from regular white and white glitter card.  After colouring the regular white die cut with distress inks, I adhered it on top of the white glitter tree, slightly offsetting it to give the illusion of snow. To complete the image, I added a little die cut bird.

The sentiment is from a Penny Black set.

The Design Team have some amazing inspiration over on the challenge blog – you must check it out! Hope you can play along with the challenge!

LucieG Christmas in July 2023 Challenge

Hi everyone!

Once again, I really enjoyed devoting a whole month to Christmas cards, although at times it was difficult to carve out time to craft every day.

Like previous years, I generally ‘shopped my stash’ to create my cards and I really enjoyed reliving some fun memories as I used some older supplies.

Thanks to everyone who followed along and shared kind comments with me – I really appreciate all of you!

Have a great day!

Christmas in July 2023 – Day 31

Hello there!

Welcome to Day 31 of LucieG’s Christmas in July 2023!

I received a nice crafty order this morning that included the fabulous Encircle embossing folder (65-009) and I could not wait to play with it! Such a unique folder – I love how the little dots within the circle are irregular!

After embossing a square panel, I added some stickles to dots at random. While that was drying, I cut the trunks from the Modern Christmas Tree die set (51-400) from various glitter card and arranged them on my card, trimming them down to add a little variety.

The sentiment is from the Meaningful stamp set (30-919)*.

Christmas in July 2023 – Day 30

Hello everyone!

Welcome to Day 30 of LucieG’s Christmas in July 2023!

I have to confess, I’m a little obsessed with pinecone stamps and dies, especially since the Great Pinecone Debacle of 2021 when a beloved stamp went missing for over a year!

Anyway, this obsession means that pinecones seem to make their way into almost every crafty order I place.. so I have to make sure I actually use my collection.

Today I used the beautiful Into the Blooms Pine die set by Papertrey Ink. I cut all the images from some Craft Consortium paper.

The sentiment is from an older Hero Arts set.

Christmas in July 2023 – Day 29

Hello everyone!

Welcome to Day 29 of LucieG’s Christmas in July 2023! I started crafting for one challenge this morning but ended up with a card for two of them!

When I saw the Color Throwdown‘s palette this week (pink, aqua, yellow and lime), I decided to make a card with a favourite flowering Christmas tree die…. until I coloured said die cut and realised that I was inadvertently making a spring card!

So, I went with an alternative that I had also been toying with – and used the sketch from this week’s Freshly Made Sketches challenge. In fact, I actually CASE’d myself as I created something similar back in December.

I started by lightly blending some Altenew Lime ink on the top of my card base and then adhering the coloured branches from The Greetery’s Pine Wisp die set. I then added  ornaments from the Curio: Attic Ornaments set and logs of gems.

To complete my card, I added a sentiment by Penny Black.
