Technique – die cutting

Featuring die cutting

Sweet Mr Snowman

Hi there!

Just popping in quickly to share my card for this week’s Freshly Made Sketches challenge. There are three overlapping circles this week – how could that not be a snowman?!

I used the Honey Bee Stamps Build a Snowman die set, together with some older patterned paper and a Nellie Snellen embossing folder for my entry.

The sentiment is by Pretty Pink Posh.

Yellow Wispy Flowers

Hello everyone!

Today I’m playing along in the Color Throwdown challenge which has a combo of blue, navy and yellow.

Whenever I use my Birch Press Design’s Wispy Blooms Contour Layers die set, I always mention how much I coveted it when I first saw it. Sadly I don’t seem to play with it enough so I was very pleased to think of it today when I was planning this card. I coloured the images using distress inks and set to one side to work on my background. The blue frame is part of the Spellbinders Infinity Punch & Pierce plate die which I picked up in the early August sale. I also bought the Stylish Ovals which coordinate so nicely but they oversold on their sale stock so they refunded those sadly. It kind of put me off using the plate die, especially when I saw the die set was in stock at full price. I’m glad I finally got round to using it!

I applied some more distress ink to the edges of my card base to add more navy contrast to my card and adhered the frame. I then stencilled some glitter paste to the white background to add something a little extra! Once that was dry I adhered my blooms and added a die cut sentiment by The Ton.

Autumn Brolly

Hi everyone!

Today I’m playing along with the challenge at the Four Seasons challenge using products kindly sent to me by Penny Black, including a stamp set from their wonderful brand new release, Autumn Gala.

I absolutely love the autumn umbrella in the Fall Breeze set (31-010) – such a clever idea. This was so much fun to colour with my beloved Twinkling H2O paints! I fussy cut the image and adhered it to my card base which I had stamped lightly with the Brick Wall cling stamp (40-137). I added a few leaves from the Pumpkin Parade die set (51-754) and the green squiggles are from the Pumpkin and Leaves set (51-360).

To complete my card, I added a sentiment from  set and a few sequins.

Colourful Coneflowers

Happy Monday everyone!

Today I’m playing along with the Color Throwdown which has a colourful combo of pink, green, magenta and white.

A few months ago my friend, the talented cardmaker Trina shared a beautiful coneflower card.  As a result, when I spotted the Taylored Expressions Cornflower dies, I snapped them up!

I finally used them this weekend – I thought the challenge colour combo would be perfect! I paired them with a Mama Elephant frame and a sentiment by Karen Burniston.

Duet

Hi everyone!

For my second card of the day, I’m playing along with the ‘double’ challenge at CAS Colours and Sketches using products kindly sent to me by Penny Black. This challenge combines colours AND a sketch… and can be quite tricky… but hey, that’s why they are called challenges, isn’t it?

For my card, I used the beautiful Duet die (51-736) and Airy die (51-423). I coloured them using regular distress inks and distress oxides and added them to part of a die cut circle.

I adhered the die cut cluster to a panel that I had embossed with the Variegated folder (65-008) and added a bow and sentiment from the Trust Me builder set (30-710) to complete my card.

(The challenge allows subtle texture as long as it doesn’t detract from the main focal point. I think my bold flowers stand out – hopefully the challenge DT agrees that this falls within their guidelines!)

Peaceful Perching

Hi there!

I finally had a clear day to craft today – and I am very relieved that my mojo didn’t go AWOL like it usually does when I have a crafty day planned!! First up is the card I made for this week’s Freshly Made Sketches challenge using products kindly sent to me by Penny Black.

I was very excited to see that Penny Black had launched two new product lines as part of their Sparkle and Shine release – embossing folders and a foiling solution called Stick and Shine. I couldn’t wait to try them!!

For today’s card, I used the Stick and Shine products for the first time and I have to say they are VERY user-friendly – I added that foiled sentiment very quickly with no mishaps whatsoever! I don’t have a foiling machine and I am so pleased that Penny Black has a solution that is super easy and will be kind to my bank account too! The sentiment is from the Xmas Classics set (15-004) which I applied with the dedicated applicator (12-001). The foil is from the Metallics set (21-001).

I cut the panel with a die from the Dainty Dashes set (51-636) and lightly blended some distress ink. For the main image, I used the branches and birds from the Perching die set (51-789) and added a bird from the Nestlings set (51-755). I cut all the images from white card and used distress oxide and mica sprays to colour the branches; the birds were coloured with regular distress ink.

Finally I embossed a strip using the Geometric folder (75-007), adhered it and silver strip to my card base and added the main panel on top.
