Technique – die cutting

Featuring die cutting

Happy Thanksgiving!

Happy Thanksgiving to all my lovely American friends! I hope you are having a wonderful day!

We don’t have a thanksgiving celebration here in the UK, so I rarely use thanksgiving sentiment stamps  – it seemed appropriate to do so today!

I paired an older Hero Arts sentiment with a Concord & 9th die for this card which is NOTHING like the design I had originally thought of! For one thing, that original design had yellow texture paste on a white background!! But when I accidently dropped my die cuts on some brown card stock, I love how it made the colour pop so I rethought my whole design! This card came together so quickly after that!

I’m going to enter this into the current Color Throwdown challenge which has a wonderful autumnal palette this week – yellow, orange, red and brow.

Day 21 – 25 Days of Christmas Tags

Hi there!

I’m playing along with Tracey McNeely’s 25 Days of Christmas Tags event this year.

The sponsor for Day 21 was Uniko Stamps. I don’t have many Uniko products, but I do have my eye on some of their fabulous stamp sets!

As I don’t have any Uniko Christmas products, I used stamps from Clearly Besotted and Penny Black for my take on Jane Taylor’s cute tag! I love how she put a wreath behind the tree – such a great design!

Birthday Starbursts

Hi Everyone!

It’s been a beautiful autumn day here today so I spent a lot of it in the garden, raking up yet more leaves and preparing my garden for winter.

I only had a short time to craft and this is what I came up with! In fact, this card came together in record time for me! It’s my take on the current challenge sketch over at the Freshly Made Sketches blog.

I used a Penny Black sentiment die and some Crealies dies that I bought from my local craft store. I was originally intending to cut the sentiment from silver glitter card but when I tried it out with the sample die cut that I keep in with my die (that happened to be cut from black card), I really liked the boldness of the black so I decided to go with that!

Silver snowflakes

Happy Saturday!

The colour combination for this week’s Color Throwdown challenge is one of my favourite festive combos – blues and silver.

I decided to use the heat embossed background technique that I first tried as part of Online Card Classes’ Merry Making class last month. This time, I created a base using some older Stampendous embossing powder and then stamped and embossed the beautiful Hero Arts snowflake background. I love this technique and still can’t believe how the powder from the stamped image just melts into the background to create a completely smooth base!

I wanted to add a die cut sentiment from Simon Says Stamp, but it didn’t stand out very well against the background so I added a vellum oval – I love how you can still see those beautiful embossed snowflakes through it!  To finish off the card, I added some Lawn Fawn snowflakes.

I’m also entering this into the current Simon Says Stamp Flickr challenge – Happy Holidays.

Day 16 – 25 Days of Christmas Tags

Hi there!

I’m playing along with Tracey McNeely’s 25 Days of Christmas Tags event this year.

The sponsor for Day 16 was Ellen Hutson. I have some wonderful Essential by Ellen stamps and dies and so it was quite difficult to decide what to use for today’s tag! I really like the set of tags that Lindsey M-P created for the challenge and got to work on my take!

I loved how Lindsey used a stencil for the background to one of her tags and so I stencilled a brick base onto my tag before adding the die cut Ellen Hutson tree!

Now, confession time! When I stamped the greeting, it wasn’t quite centred… I was so concerned that it was straight, I completely forget to centre it! To balance it out a little I added a few die cut starbursts to the background – I think they work ok!

Day 9 – 25 Days of Christmas Tags

Hi there!

I’m playing along withTracey McNeely’s 25 Days of Christmas Tags event this year.

The sponsor for Day 9 was Paper Sweeties. I must confess, I have never heard of the brand so spent a good while on their website looking at their fab goodies! I really liked Lisa Bzibziak’s tag using patterned paper and die cuts so I got to work with some of my oldest Basic Grey patterned paper and dies from Impression Obsession and Lawn Fawn. I finished off the tag with a Hero Arts Sentiment.
