Technique – die cutting

Featuring die cutting

Vase of birthday wishes

Hi friends!

Today, I’m playing along with the current Freshly Made Sketches challenge!

I used a die from an Impression Obsession vase die set that I picked up during the Dies-to-Die For Easter sale. I’m really looking forward to using all of those dies over the next few weeks! The funky stems are all from Simply Graphic.

Once I’d assembled my card, I added a small tag with a stamped Hero Arts sentiment and a few of my new Nuvo Summer Sunrise glitter drops. The glitter drops are a lovely subtle warm orange, but a little too subtle for this card as I really wanted to coordinate with the orange die cut. To get the deeper colour, I just added a dot of coloured pencil where I wanted to position each Nuvo drop – that gave me just the extra splash of colour that I was after!

Hi shaker card

Hi there!

It’s time for a new challenge at AAA Cards! We have a CAS sketch for you this fortnight and the optional twist is ‘shaker’. Our sponsor is Winnie & Walter.

I LOVE Winnie & Walter products, especially their dies, and I recently placed an order for a stack of their dies – so I knew I wanted to use one of them for my take on the challenge.

I chose the ‘hi’ die as it would be big enough to create a nice shaker. I cut it from some cardstock and got to work on my shaker element. Sounds simple doesn’t it? Well, EVERYTHING went wrong. First I forgot the acetate before adding the foam. Then I got glue all over my acetate on the next attempt. Can’t remember what went wrong with attempt no 3 but I do know this card finally came together on the fourth try. Seriously, talk about making a mountain out of a mole hill.

I created a shaker mix using a few packets of sequins that I’d had in my collection for a while plus some seed beads. Really pleased with how my mix worked with the colours of my card.

My team mates have come up with some beautiful cards which are on the AAA Cards challenge blog. We are also joined by the talented Raga from Perky Hobby – do drop by and take a look at her lovely work!

Spring Pebbles

Hello friends!

Easter may be over, but the rain showers we just had are a clear indicator that spring definitely isn’t over just yet!

Today I’m playing along with the Case This Sketch challenge and used the Simon Says Stamp Wednesday Challenge mood board as inspiration.

I’ve had the Simon Says Stamp Pebbles die on my wish list for a LONG time and snapped it up in their Christmas sale. Of course, it’s taken me AGES to actually use it!

Anyway, I loved Lisa Addesa’s inspiration and decided to use here technique of colouring an embossed version of the die. Rather than use pens, I chose my under-used Nuvo Jewel Drops which provide the prefect spring palette!

To finish of the card, I added a few Nuvo drops and a die from Mama Elephant.

I’m also entering this into the current Simon Says Stamp Flickr challenge – die cutting.

Layered dahlia

Hi friends!

I am back with my entry into the current Freshly Made Sketches challenge!

I used the Birch Press Design Dahlia Mini Frame Layer Set to cut into three panels that I’d coloured with Distress Oxide Inks. I layered them onto a background panel and inlaid the centres of the petals which I had cut from glitter cardstock.

I added a sentiment from Simon Says Stamp to finish off my card.

Framed Bunny

Happy Good Friday!

I don’t really create many cutesy cards… except at Easter time it seems! I guess I just can’t resist those sweet bunnies!

Today’s card uses dies from three companies – Memory Box (bunny), Lawn Fawn (eggs) and Simon Says Stamp (frame).

More Easter Cuties

Hello everyone!

I just can’t get enough of the Simon Says Stamp Peeking Bunny and Peeking Chick dies!

Here’s another quick Easter card that I created using the dies with a Clearly Besotted sentiment stamp.

Thanks to Shari Carroll for the inspiration!
