Technique – die cutting

Featuring die cutting

The Double challenge

Hi everyone!

For my second card of the day, I’m playing along with the ‘double’ challenge at CAS Colours and Sketches. This challenge combines colours AND a sketch… and can be quite tricky… but hey, that’s why they are called challenges, isn’t it?

For my card, I used the beautiful Cherry Blossom Wreath by Memory Box, together with a sentiment from the Ton and a stencil by Funky Fossil Designs.

Hummingbird wishes

Hello Friends

I’ve been busy in my craft room this long weekend! First up today is the card I made for this week’s Freshly Made Sketches challenge using products by Penny Black.

I knew I wanted to use the wonderful fuchsia die (51-045) as well as the gorgeous hummingbird stamp from the Flying Colors set (40-739) set.

After colouring the fuchsia with distress inks, I googled images for hummingbirds…. which I don’t think I have ever seen in real life – they aren’t native to Europe and I don’t recall seeing them on my travels at all. Anyway, I digress, I couldn’t believe it when I found this image – look at the colours of that bird – and he is with a fuchsia! Amazing!

I coloured the hummingbird with distress markers and then fussy cut the image. I created a blended background with some distress inks and then cut a panel using the Antique Frames dies (51-397).

Following the sketch, I added a die cut strip (Geometric borders – 51-196) and then adhered the panel and images. To complete my card, I added a few iridescent gems and a sentiment from the Snippets set (30-283).

Belated Birthday Blossoms!

Happy Good Friday!

Today I’m playing along with the Color Throwdown challenge which has another beautiful colour palette this week – blush, dark pink and cream. Perfect for for a cherry blossom card!

I used the Stamp Market’s Ready to Bloom cover die to cut a panel I’d covered with Tattered Rose distress ink. I then added a little Worn Lipstick in the centre of each bloom… but when I looked at itm the contrast wasn’t as intense as I wanted – I knew I needed to add a different shade of pink to represent the dark pink in the palette. So, I blended some Picked Raspberry distress ink for the Creative  Expressions die cut sentiment. I adhered the die cuts to a card base that I’d altered with Antique Linen distress oxide ink and then added some glittery Nuvo drops to complete my card.

Bunny basket

Hi everyone!

Today I’m playing along with the sketch challenge at CAS Colours and Sketches.

Of course, I’m still making Easter cards… I really need to stop making and get them into the post now! For today’s card, I used a sweet bunny from Flora and Fauna, together with the Poppystamps Decorated Folk Eggs and Memory Box Kempsey Basket which I stuck to an oval cut from an ink blended panel. For the background stripes, I used a die from the Elizabeth Craft Designs Chains 1 dies set. The sentiment is by Clearly Besotted.

Have a great day

Hi there!

I’m taking a little break from Easter cards to play along with this week’s Freshly Made Sketches challenge using products from Penny Black’s Daydream collection.

I masked off a section at the bottom of my card and applied a light layer of Pumice Stone distress ink before stamping the large image from the Flying Colors set (40-739) in Pumice Stone distress oxide ink.

I then cut the fabulous Viridescent leaf die (51-650) from an ink-blended panel and stuck it to my card base. The stem didn’t quite reach my ink-blended strip and so I die cut a small section again and adhered it to the card. I hid the join behind my sentiment which is from the Enliven mini set (30-705).

To complete my card, I added a few butterflies from one of my go-to die sets that I’ve had for years – Flourish & Butterflies (51-198).

Color Throwdown – the pastel edition!

Happy Saturday!

It’s the colour palette that I’ve been training for people! You know I love my pastels and this week one of my favourite challenges, the Color Throwdown has a fabulous pastel palette  (pink, yellow, purple and aqua).

Perfect Easter colours too, don’t you think? Of course I couldn’t just stop at one card and made two this morning using dies by Simon Says Stamp, Memory Box, Poppystamps and Marianne Designs. The stamped sentiment is by Taylored Expressions.
