Christmas in July 2021 – Day 14

Hello again everyone!

Welcome to Day 14 of Christmas in July 2021! I was having a quick look at the cards I’ve made so far and I can’t quite believe we’ve got to almost the halfway point and I haven’t made a card with a snowman or snowflake. So I’m changing that today using some Penny Black products.

I pulled out my favourite snowman die (Snowman Joy 51-272) – I always smile when I see this die, I think the name is absolutely perfect, he certainly looks like a joyful snowman to me! I coloured him using my Twinkling H2O paints. I created a soft ink blended panel using distress inks and adhered him on top. Finally, I added a few die cut snowflakes (Snow Family Cut Out 51-395) and a sentiment (Holiday Snippets 30-307).

I’m entering this into the current Sparkles Christmas challenge where the theme is more than one snowflake.

Christmas in July 2021 – Day 7

Hello everyone!

Welcome to Day 7 of Christmas in July 2021! Today I’m playing along with the CAS Christmas Card Challenge! The challenge theme is poinsettia so I thought it was the perfect time to use my brand new Sizzix Poinsettia Impresslits embossing folder.

I originally bought it to try the embossing powder/distress crayon technique that Tim Holtz demonstrated a year or so ago, but so far I have failed miserably! I think my embossing dauber is completely clogged as I can’t get decent coverage with it. I will keep trying.

So in the meantime, I coloured the poinsettia with my beloved Twinkling H2O paints. I stencilled some glitter paste to my card base and then added an Elizabeth Crafts Designs oval die cut before adhering the flower.

The die cut sentiment is by Crealies – I love that clean font!

Daisy, daisy

Hi there!

I had a bit of free time today so I decided to play along with the colour challenge at  CAS Colours and Sketches and create a card that I’ve been thinking about for a while.

I love the new Penny Black Daisy Delight die (51-676) and have lots of ideas for it but first I wanted to use it in the way it’s been designed, as an along-the-edge die. I cut it several times and then trimmed off some stems so that it would fit on a slimline card. I added some ink-blended cardstock on top of the die cuts to hide the joins in the die cuts.

The sentiment is from an older Penny Black set called Wishes (30-103).

Deer Friend collage

Hi there!

I have a few cards to share today before the challenge closes. First up, I’m playing along with the sketch challenge at Hand Stamped Sentiments.

I knew I wanted to use the fabulous new Penny Black Grazing Fawn die (51-672) as my focal point again and I also wanted to stay true to my preferred CAS style. This sketch had lots of layers so I decided to create an ink-blended/stencilled base layer with the Penny Black Leaf Frolic Stencil (25-019) and added a subtle piece of patterned paper on top of that. The sentiment is from the Hello Deer mini stamp set (30-766) (partially stamped).

AAA Cards One Corner challenge with Childhood Twist

Hi there!

It’s time for another challenge at AAA Cards!  This fortnight we’d like you to create a CAS card using one corner of your card base only. Our optional twist for this challenge is ‘Childhood Memories’!

My childhood was dominated by reading! It was by far my favourite pastime and I spent many happy hours at the library and local bookshop finding my next read. After years of studying and now with a lot of reading (and writing) in my professional life, I rarely read for pleasure, but that’s OK… I have LOTS of other hobbies! Anyway, I chose an older Newton’s Nook set for my take on our challenge and twist.

My team mates have come up with some beautiful cards which are on the AAA Cards challenge blog. We are also joined a previous challenge winner, Marieke, who has some lovely cards on her blog!!

Hope you can play along with us!

Little Foliage Circle in Purple

Hi there!

I was struck down with a migraine over the weekend so I haven’t been able to play in all the challenges that I wanted to enter this week. Luckily I was able to squeeze in a bit of crafty time this evening to play along with the beautiful colour challenge over at CAS Colours and Sketches.

I haven’t been able to find a UK supplier for Paper Rose dies, which is so disappointing as they are gorgeous! I managed to pop this fabulous Little Foliage Circle die in my last Simon Says Stamp order a few months ago and today I finally got round to using it. I coloured the die cut with my Twinkling H2Os and layered it onto piece of coloured cardstock – this is much lighter in real life but I can’t quite get the true colour to show up properly in my photo.

The sentiment is by Clearly Besotted.
