Christmas in July 2021 – Day 14

Hello again everyone!

Welcome to Day 14 of Christmas in July 2021! I was having a quick look at the cards I’ve made so far and I can’t quite believe we’ve got to almost the halfway point and I haven’t made a card with a snowman or snowflake. So I’m changing that today using some Penny Black products.

I pulled out my favourite snowman die (Snowman Joy 51-272) – I always smile when I see this die, I think the name is absolutely perfect, he certainly looks like a joyful snowman to me! I coloured him using my Twinkling H2O paints. I created a soft ink blended panel using distress inks and adhered him on top. Finally, I added a few die cut snowflakes (Snow Family Cut Out 51-395) and a sentiment (Holiday Snippets 30-307).

I’m entering this into the current Sparkles Christmas challenge where the theme is more than one snowflake.

Christmas in July 2021 – Day 12

Hello Everyone

Welcome to Day 12 of Christmas in July 2021! Today I’m playing along with the Male Room Challenge which has a Christmas in July theme. I decided to use my Penny Black supplies again today.

I knew I wanted to use the fabulous Prestige die (51-154) with an inky background. That was my first stumbling block. I spent far too long creating a blended background… which I ended up not liking and so I had to redo my main image using an inky background I created a while ago!

Then came my card base. First of all I used a background stamp but decided it would detract from the focal point. After trying a die cut background, I ended up using a stamp from the versatile Trims set (30-068). I added a sentiment from the Holiday Snippets set (30-307). Finally I added a little bird from the Birds and Banners die set (51-352).

Edited to add:

So, after I shared this card, I STILL wasn’t happy! I felt that my bird was a little lost so I coloured another one with a bit of Speckled Egg distress ink. Et voila! I think I prefer this version… which one do you prefer, dear crafters?

Christmas in July 2021 – Day 1

Hello everyone!

It’s that time of year again! LucieG’s Christmas in July! Woohoo! For the past couple of years, I’ve dedicated July to Christmas cardmaking and reaped the benefits in November/December when life always seems to get super busy! I LOVE having a good supply of cards to send to all my friends rather than stress about making them before the posting deadline. Plus I get a chance to use the festive supplies I bought in the after-Christmas sales!

So, for Christmas in July Day 1, I’m playing along with the Color Throwdown challenge which has a beautiful combo (purple, blue and green). It made me smile when I saw the combo because I remember using a very similar combo during LucieG’s Christmas in July 2020! Anyway, to start with, I masked a rectangle and blended some blue distress ink on my card base. Next, I pulled out Penny Black’s ornament branch (51-481)  which I coloured with distress inks.  Finally I added a sentiment from the Penny Black Beauty of The Season stamp set (30-254) and a few sequins to complete my card.

Sunrise Fawn

Happy Friyay everyone!

Next up today I’m playing along with the Color Hues challenge.

I’m using the same Penny Black supplies as the last card I blogged – the beautiful Grazing Fawn die (51-672) and the fun Geometric Borders (51-196) – although these are pretty difficult to see.

To create the aqua background, I used Tumbled Glass, Salvaged Patina and Peacock Feathers distress oxide inks. I had originally tried blending regular distress ink but couldn’t get a decent contrast between Salvaged Patina and Peacock Feathers. I think I was maybe a little heavy handed with my initial layer of Salvaged Patina…. In any case I switched over to distress oxide and was happier with the contrast.

So here are my two ink blended Fawn cards together – Sunrise and Sunset! Which colour combo do you prefer?

Sunset Fawn

Hi there!

Today I’m playing along with colour challenge over at the Just Us Girls Blog.

After entering my original card (below), inspiration struck me and I created a second one, using a bolder pink (Picked Raspberry instead of Kitsch Flamingo) and the same orange and red. I even used the same die beautiful Penny Black Grazing Fawn die (51-672) and then I added a little interest to the background using the Penny Black Geometric Borders (51-196).

For my original card I blended Kitsch Flamingo, Carved Pumpkin and Candied Apple distress ink.

Daisy, daisy

Hi there!

I had a bit of free time today so I decided to play along with the colour challenge at  CAS Colours and Sketches and create a card that I’ve been thinking about for a while.

I love the new Penny Black Daisy Delight die (51-676) and have lots of ideas for it but first I wanted to use it in the way it’s been designed, as an along-the-edge die. I cut it several times and then trimmed off some stems so that it would fit on a slimline card. I added some ink-blended cardstock on top of the die cuts to hide the joins in the die cuts.

The sentiment is from an older Penny Black set called Wishes (30-103).
