My Favorite Things

Featuring MFT products

Skating Bear

Hi there everyone!

Well I’m clearly on a roll with my return to My Favourite Things’ challenges. After completing a card for the colour challenge yesterday, today I got to work on the current MFT sketch challenge.

I’ve been meaning to play along with the cute MFT polar bears again and the sketch seemed like the perfect opportunity! I stamped and coloured the skating bear using my Altenew Watercolours and then masked off the image to create a soft ink-blended background. To create the blue vertical panel, I embossed the MFT Scribble Circles background stamp and then applied a watercolour wash using one colour from the Altenew set.

Merry Snowflakes

Hi there!

It’s been a while since I participated in a My Favorite Things challenge. Not sure why as I have so many MFT products…. Anyway, today I decided to play along with the MFT Colour Challenge. It’s a  really interesting palette (two shades of blue, kraft and persimmon), which many of the team had used to create cute scenes, but I immediately thought of my snowflake dies! I agonised about getting these a few years ago, but I am so glad I did, as they are still amongst my favourite Christmas dies!

Anyway, I used the current Freshly Made Sketches challenge for my card – love the CAS design that Amy came up with!

Before I finish this post, I have to say that I still can’t believe I had glitter card that was the perfect shade of persimmon! Hmmm…. that might be because my glitter card collection is quite extensive!

Happiest of birthdays

Happy Friyay people!

My Altenew Watercolour paints arrived this morning so I had a fun afternoon swatching and playing with them! They made using this week’s Color Throwdown challenge palette (aqua, peach, light grey and white) very easy indeed!

I finally inked up and embossed part of the Simon Says Stamp Centre Cut Flowers stamp and coloured it with my new paints.  I dry embossed a strip of grey cardstock and adhered it to my base card before adding the coloured image.

To finish off the card I added a sentiment from My Favorite Things.

I’m also entering this into the current Freshly Made Sketches challenge and the Simon Says Stamp Flickr challenge (anything goes).

Lovecats

Hi there everyone!

I haven’t been able to spend much time in the craftroom recently but I have been able to make this card for my mum and dad’s anniversary yesterday.

I heat-embossed the Impression Obsessions lovecats stamp and then blended regular distress ink on top. I cut a heart from a separate piece of card using an Essentials by Ellen heart die and adhered it over the cat image using foam tape.

To finish off the card I added a sentiment from My Favourite Things and some hearts cut using a Memory Box die.

Belated Happy Anniversary to my lovely parents!

Feeling Grateful

Hello everyone!

I am so honoured to be the August guest designer over at the CAS Colours & Sketches challenges blog.

I’ve been experimenting with the challenges I play in and this was one that I discovered more recently. I love that it’s still a weekly challenge and the team alternates between colour palette and sketch-based challenges. The first challenge this month is a colour palette challenge.

The colours were quite a challenge for me but they did feel quite autumnal so I pulled out my foliage and floral dies and got to work.

The team uses Stampin Up! colour names as a reference but I was able to match up the colours quite well using distress inks. To create the background, I smooshed some Blueprint Sketch distress ink onto my base card and when it was dry, I blended another layer on top. I cut an oval from a square piece of white card and layered that on top of my base.

To create the die cut image, I blended a mix of Fired Brick (in oxide format) and Rusty Hinge to create a shade which I felt was close to Cajun Craze and on a separate piece of card I blended Peeled Paint and Forest Moss. I cut the panels using a couple of older Poppystamps dies and positioned them on the blue oval. To finish off the card, I added an embossed sentiment from My Favorite Things.

I am totally grateful to the team for inviting me as GD this month. Check out their amazing inspiration on the CAS Colours & Sketches challenges blog.

I hope you can play along too!

Have a great day

Color Throwdown Celebration

Good morning everyone!

This week, I have the honour of being the Guest Designer over at one of my favourite challenges – the Color Throwdown Challenge.

The palette for this challenge is navy, blush, gold and white, another fabulous combination, don’t you think?

I had a lot of fun with this combo and ended up making several cards!

I wanted to celebrate the 500th challenge – isn’t that an amazing milestone! I’ve only been playing along with the challenge for a couple of years and whenever my mojo goes AWOL I always look back for a past colour combo to get my creativity flowing again! Many congrats to the whole team, past and present!

Right, onto my cards…

For the celebration card, I used a new embossing folder that I found at Michaels during a recent trip to the US. I used dies from My Favorite Things and Crealies for the balloons and added a die cut  sentiment by Penny Black to an Avery Elle banner to finish off the card.

For the hello card, I heat embossed a Penny Black image with Altenew Peach Gold embossing powder and added some die cut butterflies by Simon Says Stamp. The frame and sentiment are by My Favorite Things and Sizzix/Karen Burniston.

There’s some amazing inspiration from the Color Throwdown DT over on the challenge blog – I do hope you can play along this week!
