Embracing the Bright Colours

Happy Saturday everyone!

There’s another great sketch for the Freshly Made Sketch challenge this week – it gave me so many ideas! In the end, I decided to use stamps from my Hero Arts Flowers for Coloring set and a couple of Memory Box dies, but I may use this sketch again for other cards, it’s a fabulous design!

I decided to step outside my pastel-coloured comfort zone and embrace the bright colours! I pulled out the brightest Twinking H2O paints and got colouring. Usually I choose the background paper before I colour as I find it easier (and quicker) to create that way… but today I didn’t and spent a happy time flicking through my old Basic Grey paper pads…. and changing my mind several times before making a decision….

I knew I wanted to dry emboss a centre panel as I had planned to play along with the current Flower Challenge which has the theme of embossing. I spent a little while trying out a few designs before alighting on this Spellbinders / Tammy Tutterow Picnic embossing folder. Yep, this card took MUCH longer than it should have!

Anyway, to finish off the card I used some older dies from Memory Box – the Garland Greenery from 2015 and one of my very first Memory Box sentiments that I got in 2013 – A Little Thanks!

And a big thanks to you for stopping by! Enjoy the weekend!

Vase of birthday wishes

Hi friends!

Today, I’m playing along with the current Freshly Made Sketches challenge!

I used a die from an Impression Obsession vase die set that I picked up during the Dies-to-Die For Easter sale. I’m really looking forward to using all of those dies over the next few weeks! The funky stems are all from Simply Graphic.

Once I’d assembled my card, I added a small tag with a stamped Hero Arts sentiment and a few of my new Nuvo Summer Sunrise glitter drops. The glitter drops are a lovely subtle warm orange, but a little too subtle for this card as I really wanted to coordinate with the orange die cut. To get the deeper colour, I just added a dot of coloured pencil where I wanted to position each Nuvo drop – that gave me just the extra splash of colour that I was after!

Thanks for stopping by!

Birthday Wreath

Happy birthday to my lovely mum!

My mum loves wreaths so I always make at least one for her on each special occasion!

Here’s the card I made for her this time – I used the Simon Says Stamp Floral Sparkle Wreath that I picked up when it appeared one their deals and steals page a few weeks ago.

I cut the wreath from different coloured cardstock and then did some inlaid die cutting. And while I was at it, I created four more inlaid die cut wreaths – got to build up my birthday card pile!

Anyway, I added a touch of Pixie Dust to the wreath before cutting around the image using a Penny Black die. Finally I added a sentiment from Hero Arts to complete my card.

I’m entering this into the current Simon Says Stamp Wednesday challenge (anything goes) and also the Simon Says Stamp Flickr challenge where the theme is ‘Mother’s Day/Flowers’.

Thanks for stopping by!

Easter Papel Picado

Hi there!

Today I’m playing with another new background die – the fabulous Hero Arts Papel Picardo die!

I decided to create another Easter card using older stamps from Simon Says Stamp and the current palette for the Color Throwdown challenge (mint, aqua, dark pink and green).

I’m also entering this into the Simon Says Stamp Flickr challenge (anything goes) and the Simon Says Stamp Wednesday challenge – no designer paper!

Turning autumn to spring

Happy Friyay!

As soon as I saw the rather sad Instagram post by Hero Arts today, I decided to make a card to reflect how I feel about the company that got me into this wonderful world of cardmaking! Its leaders seem to try to balance business and kindness/generosity/transparency – all admirable traits. But quite honestly, it has always been about the quality of their products and amazing designs for me.

Anyway, I fell in love with the My Monthly Hero September 2018 kit as soon as I saw it! I have been stalking the website for a while – I couldn’t believe that it hadn’t sold out and I finally snapped one up last month. While it is clearly an autumn set, I decided to repurpose it for spring, inspired by the fabulous Color Throwdown challenge colour palette (purple, yellow, green and grey). I turned a couple of sprigs into two beautiful yellow spring shrubs, kerria and forsythia which was actually the easiest part of the card! Everything else seemed to go wrong – even stamping the sentiment! But I got there in the end!

Thanks for stopping by!
