Grateful

Hi everyone

Last night I went to the Tower of London’s sound and light installation marking the 100 year anniversary of the end of World Ward I. Very moving. I loved the poppies in 2014 and this year’s installation is equally special.

I was inspired to create a poppy card using an older Penny Black wood-mounted stamp and the sketch from the current Freshly Made Sketches challenge. to finish off the card, I added a simple sentiment by Concord & 9th.

Garden Treasures

Happy Tuesday!

I’m back with another post for the Crafts-U-Love design team.

All of us are using the same set this month – the beautiful Garden Treasures set by Julie Hickey.

I shared the first card I made with this set on 15 October. As usual, links to my supplies are at the end of this post.

This week, I made two cards using the gorgeous set.

My first card was very quick to create – I stamped the images and sentiments using distress oxide inks – these inks are just so stunning on dark cardstock!

To finish off the card, I added a few dots with a white pencil.

For my second card, I used distress markers and water on watercolour cardstock. I started by smooshing some blue and green ink onto the card base to create the background.

Then I applied ink from the markers to the stamps, spritzed the stamps with the water and stamped to create softer images. Once I’d created a bouquet that I was happy with, I applied a light green marker to a few leaf images to create images that wouldn’t detract from the bold flowers. I added a sentiment stamped with distress oxide ink and cut it out using a die from the Marianne Designs Rosettes & Labels Collectables set.

Celebrating Kindness

Happy Sunday everyone!

It’s time for a new challenge over at AAA Cards and this fortnight we are celebrating kindness. Stamplorations is our sponsor.

Before I talk about my card, I wanted to take a few moments to share a story which sums up what ‘kindness’ means to me…

Some time ago, I was sitting in the doctors’ waiting room. It was around 5.30 on a Friday night and I became aware of a phone conversation the receptionist was having. It was clear that the patient at the other end of the line had run out of vital meds and was unable to get to the surgery or pharmacy to collect a prescription. The receptionist made multiple calls but couldn’t find anyone to help before the surgery closed. In the end, she got the onsite pharmacy to make up the prescription and rang the patient to let her know that she would drop off the medication before going home.

That’s kindness to me. Someone going above and beyond to help someone else and not expecting anything at all in return.

Sometimes in this day and age, it’s easy to forget that these acts of kindness are actually all around us. But they are and it’s amazing how much a simple ‘thank you’ means to people like the receptionist who was just doing what she felt was right; she probably didn’t even label it at an ‘act of kindness’.

So today my card honours those humble, kind souls.

I stamped a PaperArtsy image and coloured it using my Twinkling H2O paints. I splattered some paint lightly around the image and then added the stamped sentiment together with the die cut ‘thanks’. To finish off the card, I added some extra shimmer to the flowers using my Nuvo Aqua Shimmer glitter gloss aquabrush.

My teammates have shared some gorgeous CAS cards on the AAA Cards blog, together with our sponsor Shery from Stamplorations and the talented Trina from Phamtastic Design as our Guest Designer. Trina is a regular player winner (!) in our challenges – she has some beautiful CAS creations and wait until you see what she has come up with for this challenge! Stunning!

Thanks for stopping by – I do hope you play along with us!

Tribute to Melissa

Hello everyone

I was shocked and so very saddened to learn of the passing of my sweet AAA teammate and friend, Melissa Lane, on 2 October. She was such a kind-hearted and modest soul who was devoted to Jesus and her beloved family. My heart goes out to all of them at this terrible time.

Today my AAA Cards teammates have joined with STAMPlorations to celebrate Melissa’s artistic and creative talents. Melissa’s favourite colour was red and she loved butterflies and we’d like to invite you to join us in celebrating her life by creating a butterfly card in her memory.

The AAA blog post has full details about where you can share the card that you create and how you can send it to Melissa’s family.

Rest in peace my friend. You are so missed.

Lucie.

With love to you

Hello everyone!

I’m so happy to say I had a lovely productive time in my craft room today! It feels good to be crafting again!

Here’s the card I made for the current Freshly Made Sketches Challenge. I cut a blended background with the fabulous Memory Box Jasper Leaves die and added a flower and rose from the Ellen Hutson wild garden set.

The one with all the Friends cards

Happy Sunday everyone!

It’s time for a new challenge over at AAA Cards and this fortnight we want to see CAS cards inspired by a TV show. Our sponsor is Stamplorations.

I confess I found this theme a bit of a challenge… but then I remembered the fabulous Friends-inspired stamp set by The Ink Road. I absolutely LOVE the TV series – even though it ended over a decade ago, I still enjoy watching it to this day. And of course so many iconic lines.

As you can see, I couldn’t stop at one card – there are so many fun lines included in the set how could I possibly choose just one?!

I started with the ‘moo’ comment by Joey. I knew I wanted to pair it with a cute cow stamp, but you know I discovered I only have a couple of cow stamps! I ended up using a Penny Black stamp from an older ’12 Days of Christmas’ set. I love how versatile that set is – the images can be used all year round!

Anyway, once I’d stamped and coloured the image, I felt my stamping needed to be ‘grounded’, so I used a rectangle die with a rubber mat to emboss a border. A fun technique to add a little something extra to CAS cards!

I decided to use the ‘lobster’ quote for my second card. I always remember Pheobe explaining that lobsters mate for life…. and when she gleefully exclaims at the end of the episodes ‘he’s her lobster!’ as Ross and Rachel kiss. I’d completely forgotten that Ross does actually say ‘you’re my lobster’ to Rachel earlier in the episode in a typical Ross manner!

I kept it simple, stamping with Altenew inks and adding a few die cut hearts to finish off the card.

My final card uses a line from one of my favourite scenes from the entire series – when Ross, Rachel and Chandler are trying to move Ross’s new sofa into his apartment. So funny! It makes me giggle even just thinking about it! Anyway, if you know the scene, you know Ross’s sofa was white, but I decided to use the sofa in Central Perk as my colour inspiration!

The ‘pivot’ stamp is stacked, but I wanted a horizontal sentiment… So, I lined the stamp up on my MISTI, masked off part of the sentiment and then moved the card a couple of times in the MISTI to create the horizontal sentiment.

My teammates have shared some gorgeous CAS cards on the AAA Cards blog and we are also joined by our wonderful sponsor, Shery, plus the super talented Alex. She has some fabulous creations on her site!
