Technique – dry embossing

Featuring dry embossing

Christmas in July 2021 – Day 13

Hello everyone and welcome to Day 13 of Christmas in July 2021!

Today I’m playing along in the colour challenge at the Christmas Card Throwdown where the combo is deep purple, gold and white.

I decided that my fabulous new Sizzix 3D Christmas Tree embossing folder should take centre stage again today. This is one of my favourite embossing folders ever! I used one of those new domed ink blending foams to dust some white ink over the trees. I’m not sure I could see much of a difference to the effect I get when I use a regular foam… I think I’ll have to practice a bit more with it!

I added a glittery golden sentiment by Creative Expressions and finally a few white stars, just in case the white inking was a little too subtle!

Christmas in July 2021 – Day 4

Happy Sunday everyone!

Welcome to Day 4 of  Christmas in July 2021! Today I’m playing along with the sketch challenge at the Global Design Project.

I used my brand new Sizzix 3D Christmas Tree embossing folder – I love how all those fabulous trees look on that metallic cardstock – but it was quite difficult to photograph! I added an older Memory Box die and a sentiment by My Favorite Things to complete my card.

Christmas in July 2021 – Day 3

Hello everyone and welcome to Day 3 of Christmas in July 2021!

Today I’m playing along with the current challenge over at Freshly Made Sketches.

As I wanted to reduce the layers on my card, I started off by embossing a square on my card base using a die. I lightly blended some distress ink to reinforce the shape, but didn’t press too heavily as I didn’t want to it detract from my focal point! I then coloured a couple of Simply Graphic stem dies together with a Poppystamps die with distress inks and adhered them to my card base. To complete my CAS card, I added a sentiment by The Ton Stamps.

One Cool Cat

Hi there!

Today I’m playing along with one of my favourite sketch challenges, Freshly Made Sketches.

I spent a good part of my crafty time this morning trying to get to grips with a technique Tim Holtz demonstrated last year in the hopes of incorporating it into my entry today. Suffice to say that I still need to perfect said technique so instead this afternoon, I turned to an older Hero Arts Layering Stamp set (Brave Lion). I paired it with a sentiment by My Favorite Things.

The panel was embossed using a Park Lane Paperie embossing folder called Aztec and added a Honey Bee Stamps Heart Vine die cut for good measure!

Butterfly field

Hello again!

Next up is my entry into one of my favourite sketch challenges, Freshly Made Sketches.

I’ve always loved dry embossing but haven’t used my folders much since I switched to the Gemini Junior die cutting machine. I could never get the plate/sandwich quite right. Last week, I decided to get my old manual die cutting machine out again, so I cleared some space in my craft room and set it up. So far, so good! The Gemini will continue to be my favourite machine for die cutting but it was so good to get a decent first impression with an embossing folder again!

So the reason for this little back story is that I was able to quickly emboss this sweet flowery scene with my new set up using an older Couture Creations folder. I added some die cut butterflies (Stampin Up, Memory Box and Simon Says Stamp) and a sentiment by Clearly Besotted.
