Technique – dry embossing

Corner Butterflies

Happy Saturday everyone!

Today I’m playing along with the Freshly Made Sketches challenge.

I originally planned to use a leafy corner die for my take on the challenge – but then I decided to go with a couple of Memory Box butterflies instead! I used the Drifting Side Butterfly and the smaller Flitter Side Butterfly cut from Craft Consortium paper and white glitter card. I lightly applied Salvaged Patina distress ink to ground the butterflies but felt the card still need a little something so I embossed the background using the Spellbinders Flower Frenzy embossing folder.

The sentiment is by Concord & 9th.

Christmas in July 2023 – Day 31

Hello there!

Welcome to Day 31 of LucieG’s Christmas in July 2023!

I received a nice crafty order this morning that included the fabulous Encircle embossing folder (65-009) and I could not wait to play with it! Such a unique folder – I love how the little dots within the circle are irregular!

After embossing a square panel, I added some stickles to dots at random. While that was drying, I cut the trunks from the Modern Christmas Tree die set (51-400) from various glitter card and arranged them on my card, trimming them down to add a little variety.

The sentiment is from the Meaningful stamp set (30-919)*.

Christmas in July 2023 – Day 27

Hello everyone!

Welcome to Day 27 of LucieG’s Christmas in July 2023! Today I’m playing along with this week’s The Paper Players sketch challenge.

The star of today’s card is made from the fabulous Poppystamps Pine Needle Shoots die. I’m not sure how I missed it when it was released last year – I snapped it up as soon as I saw it online in January, knowing that it would get some use in July! I can’t believe that I didn’t use it until Day 27! But when I saw the sketch, I knew it was the perfect opportunity to showcase the pine needles. I cut each set of shoots three times from an ink-blended panel I made ages ago and then layered them up.

I used the amazing Sizzix 3D Christmas Trees embossing folder. I’ve had this a few years now and it is still one of my favorites!

The sentiment is from one of my trusty Mama Elephant sets.

Christmas in July 2023 – Day 23

Hello everyone!

Welcome to Day 23 of LucieG’s Christmas in July 2023! Today I’m playing along with this week’s Freshly Made Sketches challenge.

Today I used a Spellbinders/Susan Tierney-Cockburn die set called Holiday Flora Pinecone and Evergreen Bough that I picked up in the sale a few months ago. I’m so grateful that Susan has made some amazing videos showing how to assemble these! The pine cones still took a while to create but I also tested out my new Waffle Flower Crafts grip mat when I coloured the scales – and it worked really well!

I used my fabulous Gemini embossing folder and a sentiment from My Favorite Things to complete my card.

Christmas in July 2023 – Day 19

Hello everyone!

Welcome to Day 13 of LucieG’s Christmas in July 2023! Today I’m playing along with the theme challenge at the 52 Christmas card challenge.

When I saw the theme was pets, I immediately thought of my Stampendous Kitty Claws wood-mounted stamp. I can’t believe it’s been FOUR YEARS since I last used him for this card. This time, I paired him with a Spellbinders embossing folder which I used for the centre strip. I saw that the embossing made the strip edges appear wonky so I hid them with a generous application of stickles!

Christmas in July 2023 – Day 16

Hello everyone!

Welcome to Day 16 of LucieG’s Christmas in July 2023! Today I’m playing along with this week’s Freshly Made Sketches challenge.

I used a few older Memory Box dies for this card – the Scribble Snowman Background and Outline dies plus the Wintry Snowflake Bundle. I realised that rarely use the snowman even though he is very cute… I think it’s because the outline doesn’t fit on his base completely… I know it’s arty, but… well, I suspect I would use it more if the scribble head fit the base! Anyway, I cut the snowman background from some Tonic Specialty paper – I really like the texture on this… I must use it more often!

For the strip, I used the pretty Pinpoints Starlets embossing folder by Simon Says Stamp to emboss some vellum.

The sentiment is by Mama Elephant.
