Technique – die cutting

Featuring die cutting

Colourful Nordic Flourishes

Hi there!

Today I’m playing along in the Color Throwdown challenge which has a fun palette of red, navy and pink.

I have to confess that I spent some time today trying to come up with a design for these colours! In the end, I decided to use the Poppystamps Nordic Flourishes die set that I picked up just after Christmas.

I cut the dies from three different Craft Consortium papers and then spent far too long arranging the elements on my card base! I realised that I needed to work around my sentiment (Hello Cursive Script Circle by Memory Box) and it actually became much easier to get a layout once that was in place!

To complete my card I added a few pearls.

Merry Berry Wreath

Happy Festive Friyay!

Today I’m playing along with the current theme challenge over at the 52 Christmas Card Throwdown!

I finally got my hands on Simon Says Stamp Berry Wreath dies set after their Thanksgiving sale last year and used it just once – for my mum’s Christmas card. So naturally I thought of it as soon as I saw the challenge theme. Although it’s only been a month since Christmas, I was VERY excited to play with this die set again.

I coloured all the die cuts with distress ink and adhered it to a base that I had embossed with a Spellbinders folder.

The sentiment is by Savvy Stamps.

Basket of hearts

Hi everyone!

Today I’m playing along with this week’s challenge at Freshly Made Sketches using products kindly sent to me by Penny Black.

I knew as soon as I saw the basket in the Berry Basket set (51-796) that I would be using it during all the seasons – so I’m kicking of my personal challenge with a love card!

I started with the Line of Hearts die (51-285) which I cut from glitter card. I then used the cut and coloured the largest die from the Framed set (51-622) with distress inks. I then cut the Heartlets die set (51-294) a couple of times and coloured all my images with distress inks.

As I was arranging all the images on a standard card base, I felt that the square frame was a little too big so I switched things up and moved to a square card instead. Sadly the frame still seemed too large so I will have to use that on another design! I adhered everything to the card base and added a few glitter heart ‘offcuts’ (from the Line of Hearts and Heartlets dies).

To complete my card, I added a sentiment from the Snippets set (30-823).

Butterfly thank you card

Hi there!

Today I’m playing along in the Color Throwdown challenge which has a beautiful combo of blush, dusty blue and pink.

I received a few Poppystamps dies this morning – including the Beautiful Butterflies Sidekick Frame and Stencil set which I have been wanting for a while! So I just had to play with it straightaway!

The set includes a die that cuts a number of standalone butterflies which I cut from card and vellum. I coloured all the images with distress ink and added some pencil detail. For the background, I was inspired by Deb’s card with this set, so I cut some Penny Black clouds from masking paper and lightly blended some Stormy Sky distress ink over them. I adhered the frame to the panel and added the standalone butterflies and their bodies,

To complete my card I added a Penny Black sentiment.

A festive colour challenge indeed

Happy Festive Friyay!

Today I’m playing along with the current colour challenge over at the 52 Christmas Card Throwdown!

And what a challenge it is! Yellow, orange and red! Typical autumn colours for LucieG! When I saw the combo, all I could think of was my Christmas in July 2022 failed card which used similar colours and which I repurposed into this autumnal card….. I was determined to make a Christmas card this time that I would not repurpose later!

After looking through my dies, I decided to use an older My Favorite Things die set of three stockings which I coloured using distress inks. It’s a simple die set of three stocking images but I wanted a little something extra, so I die cut them again from textured paper, trimmed sections and adhered to each stocking.

I added thin card strips to my card base and then adhered a Memory Box branch die cut. I hung the stockings from the branch and secured them with foam tape. Finally I added a sentiment from a My Favourite Stamps set.

Hoops Galore!

Hi there!

Today I’m playing along in the Color Throwdown challenge which has a beautiful combo of pink, purple and green.

I used more items from my New Things box today – the Embroidered Blooms dies, Hoopla mini die set and Aida Cloth die from The Greetery’s Handiwork collection last summer. I coloured each of the die cut elements with distress inks. I was originally intending to cut the hoops from kraft card, but decided to use pink and purple hoops instead – I’m glad I did as I I think the kraft may have overpowered the delicate shades of the palette that I chose.
