Technique – die cutting

Featuring die cutting

Inspired by Wedgwood

Hello there!

This evening I suddenly remembered that I wanted to play along with the Poppystamps Bloom Where You Are Planted challenge.

I had originally planned to use the flower dies I had purchased from Poppystanos’ newest release, but time was short and the card I had in mind would be a little too fiddly to complete by the deadline (well, OK as I’m in the UK – my bedtime really!).

So, instead, and using Wedgwood pottery as my inspiration, I pulled out a ten-year old die and got creating! The die I used is called Brighton Flower Border. Isn’t it pretty! I really must remember to use it again when time is not of the essence – I can just imagine a card with the Brighton flowers in cheery colours!

So although this card came together really quickly, I spent far too long looking for the Memory Box paper stack that I wanted to use for it! Whenever I want to use this stack, it seems to disappear on me. I found it in the end, but I’m definitely going to make a note of where I hide/store it next. It’s so frustrating when things go AWOL isn’t it? One of the least joyful parts of crafting me thinks!

Thanks a bunch

Hi everyone!

Today I’m using products kindly sent to me by Penny Black for my card for the Just Us Girls colour challenge and the 700th challenge over at Just Add Ink where the theme is ‘just add shimmer or shine’. Congrats to the JAI team for that amazing milestone and thank you for all your inspiration and support over the years!

After all my problems photographing my last grey card, I decided that I would not be using grey card for my base this time! Instead I blended some Hickory Smoke distress ink across my white card base before applying parts of the Shimmering Tune Stick & Shine Sheet (15-005) and covering it with foil from the Metallics foils set (21-001).  Next I cut a tag from the Tagged die set (51-007) which I covered with Dried Marigold distress ink. I then cut and coloured three of the fabulous Flower Family dies (51-819) and arranged them on my tag. I added a small butterfly from the Flights of Fancy die set (51-132) to a small circle from the Encircled die set (51-074).

After working out where I was going to position my die cuts, I stamped a sentiment from the So Thankful set (30-914) and then adhered all my images using foam tape before adding a few gems to complete my card.

Just by being you

Hi everyone!

Next up today is the card I made for the current Simon Says Stamp Wednesday challenge using products kindly sent to me by Penny Black.

First of all, I cut the new Layered Bloom die (51-818) and Whisper die (51-737) and coloured them with distress inks before trimming the Whisper stem die and arranging the layered bloom on top. I then cut the fabulous YOU die (51-760) from some pink and white card, layered them together and adhered it to my card base. I stamped part of a sentiment from the Brighten The World stamp set (31-056) and tucked in the die cut stem.

I added a few gems to complete my card.

Bunches o’ Butterflies

Hello there!

Today I’m playing along in this week’s Freshly Made Sketches challenge using the stunning combo from the  Color Throwdown challenge – grey, magenta and aqua.

I just picked up the new Poppystamps Bunches o’ Butterflies die set and have been looking forward to using it – today was the day! I was very much inspired by a card shared by Poppystamps in their online store  with a kaleidoscope of butterflies!

It took me a little while to arrange all those little butterflies and I must confess that did go back and fiddle with the placement a few times! The sentiment is by Lawn Fawn.

It took me even longer to photograph this card! My lightbox set up seemed to distort the colours regardless of the camera I used (DSLR or iPhone) and so eventually I resorted to my old set up and got images which were most true to what my eye sees!

Shining Wings dies 2024

Hello everyone!

Today I’m sharing cards I made with some dies kindly sent to me by Penny Black from their new Shining Wings release. This is such a beautiful release with so many products that I was excited to create with.

My first card showcases the stunning Ascending die (51-820) which is probably my favourite Penny Black foliage die! I used a stencil from the Background Basics set (25-021) and blended some distress ink on my card base. I coloured the Ascending die cut with distress inks and arranged it on my card, leaving room for a foiled sentiment from the new Shining Wishes Stick & Shine Sheet (15-017) which I covered with foil from the new Blooming foils set (21-003). I also applied some foil to a small piece of card for the bow from the Jumbo Bauble die set (51-743) and centres for my vellum flowers, which are cut with dies from a new-to-me set, Flourish (51-421).

I then turned my attention to the elegant Dignified die (51-821) which I coloured with distress inks. The background panel was cut using the largest die from the Dainty Dashes Stackers die set (51-636) which I adhered to a green card base. After masking off the frame, I blended a little distress ink over the centre of my white panel. I applied two butterflies from the from the new Shining Wings Stick & Shine Sheet (15-015) to a piece of card, added foil from the new Blooming foils set (21-003), fussy cut and adhered them to my card. I was so excited to see more of these beautiful butterflies as I use the ‘original’ die ALL the time – it’s from the classic Flourish and Butterflies set (51-198), and of course a die cut makes an appearance here – cut from vellum! The sentiment is from the new Brighten the World stamp set (31-056).

As soon as I saw the release, I was drawn to the pretty Flower Family die set (51-819). I am CONVINCED that this mirrors a wood-mounted stamp but I can’t find it in my (rather extensive) wood-mounted stamp collection or online! Anyway, this super simple card came together really quickly! I coloured the centres with different distress inks and added some gems. I blended some Black Soot and Chipped Sapphire distress ink across the bottom of a navy card panel and adhered the flowers.  I then chose a sentiment from the new Shining Wishes Stick & Shine Sheet (15-017) which I covered with foil from the Metallics foils set (21-001). To complete my card, I added a thin strip of silver card to anchor my flower family. Click here to see another card that I made with this die set.

Next up is my card using the bold Layered Bloom die set (51-818). I coloured it with distress inks and added it to a base that I had embossed with the Noted embossing folder (65-005).  The sentiment is from the new Shining Wishes Stick & Shine Sheet (15-017) and the foil is from the new Blooming foils set (21-003). Click here to see another card I made with this die set.

Last but definitely not least is my card using the gorgeous Refresh die set (51-817). I love this set of three big statement blooms – I’ve already planned more cards with it!! For this card, I tucked the flowers into windows in a panel cut using the Slimline Medley die set (51-718) and added a sentiment from the Trust Me builder stamp set (30-7100).
