Technique – die cutting

Featuring die cutting

Bright tulip fanfare

Hi there!

It’s time for a new challenge at AAA Cards! This fortnight we’re challenging you to use just up to a third of your card base and the optional twist is ‘bright colours’. Our sponsor is JoyClair.

Now, bright colours are generally outside my comfort zone as I naturally reach for muted tones or pastels but it was such a wet, dull day when I was creating my card, I was really excited to be playing with them!

I chose an older die from Poppystamps called Tulip Fanfare. After I die cut the image from white cardstock, I coloured it using my Twinkling H2Os and added coloured pencils for some depth.

I did a bit of controlled ink smooshing on my base card and then adhered the die cut. The stamped sentiment is by Simon Says Stamp.

My team mates have come up with some beautiful cards which are on the AAA Cards challenge blog. We are also joined by Michelle from Seashell Creations – do drop by and take a look at her lovely work – she has some wonderful CAS creations!

Layered spring flowers

Happy Saturday everyone!

Today I’m playing along with one of my favourite challenges – the Color Throwdown, which has another beautiful palette for us this week – blue, coral pink, green and kraft.

My new Memory Box dies arrived this morning so I leapt at the opportunity to play with them immediately! I blended some Distress Oxide (Tumbled Glass, Tattered Rose, Bundled Sage and Frayed Burlap) onto white cardstock which I then cut multiple times using the Layered Poppy, Layered Rose and Layered Tulip dies.

I used glitter paste and a stencil to create a soft but sparkly background and adhered the flowers. I die cut a second piece of cardstock for the bottom section of my card, sponging a little Bundled Sage along the curved edge before adhering it to the base using foam tape.

The sentiment is also by Memory Box.

Butterfly birthday wishes

Hello everyone and happy Tuesday!

Today, I’m playing along in two challenges – the current Case This Sketch challenge and the Poppystamps monthly challenge.

When I saw the sketch, I played around with various corner stamps but I wanted to do something a bit different so I started looking through my dies. I liked the positioning of the butterflies on the three frames of the Poppystamps Butterfly Triptych die and realised that I could use them in my take on the sketch challenge by simply cutting away half of each of the frames.

First, I prepared my card base by lightly stamping a background stamp by My Favorite Things in Tumbled Glass distress ink. I then took a background I’d created from some distress oxide inks and used it to cut out the butterflies and the Mod Birthday wishes sentiment. I then inlaid the die cut pieces into each butterfly.

Finally I added some glittery butterflies by Simon Says Stamp to finish off my card.

I’m also entering this into the new AAA Birthday Challenge.

Beloved Daisies

Hello everyone!

I inked up my new colour layering set from Altenew today – the Beloved Daisy set! A beautiful and very forgiving set as the layers don’ t have to be ‘perfect’!

I decided to play along with the current CAS Colours & Sketches challenge – which is a combined colour and sketch challenge. I found it quite difficult to match the colours perfectly but I think I got quite close using a mix of inks from Altenew, My Favorite Things and Distress ink! My interpretation of ‘soft sky’ looks much greener in real life, but it is so much bluer when I photograph it and my Photoshop skills aren’t quite good enough for me to be able to make the ‘real life’ adjustment!

Anyway, thanks for stopping by!

Hello my sweet friend

Happy Friyay friends!
After a frustrating day, I knew I had to do a bit of colouring to de-stress this evening. It worked!
I coloured the fabulous new Altenew Delicate Flower Bed stamp with my Twinkling H2Os and then used the Simon Says Stamp big hello die for some hidden die cutting! The embossed sentiment is actually from an Altenew/SSS Stamptember collaboration a few years ago.
I’m entering this into the current Simon Says Stamp Flickr challenge (mother’s day/flowers).
Thanks for stopping by!
