Technique – die cutting

Featuring die cutting

Made in May Card 1

Hi there!

I have so many unused or seldom used products that I want to use so this month, I’m making a concerted effort to create with them. I’ve discovered that a number of my cards are too thick for the standard postage rate so I also want to make sure I make a few ‘mailable’ cards as I’d like a few more on hand!

I’m not sure I’ll be able to make a card a day so we’ll see how it goes but one thing I want to do is have fun – and that means no stressing about photography either. I do find it difficult to take decent photos of cards at times  – especially the more traditional front-facing view. So at times there may be fewer photos in these posts – like today actually!

Speaking of today’s card, I used a few new Spellbinders products – the Blooming Stems die set and the Flourish embossing folder. The seal is made using a new die set by Waffle Flower Crafts. The sentiment is from an older Woodware set but the oldest product I used was the Glossy Accents on the edges of the seal – I’ve had it for years and couldn’t believe it still flowed. I have treated myself to a new bottle now though – and surprise surprise it was the same price as the one I bought at least 7 years ago!

I’m pleased because I used my card scraps for the stems and I like how they turned out! I’ve been colouring stems with ink recently, but may make more use of my scraps this month! I never intended to have a blue background – I was literally just testing the layout against my embossing folder swatch when I realised the colours worked so I went with it… I need to do a new swatch now though!

Best wishes with Butterfly Bliss

Hello everyone!!

After thinking I wouldn’t play along with the Freshly Made Sketches challenge this week, inspiration struck so here I am!

I knew I wanted to create something a bit different, so instead of two rectangular panels, I cut two flowery shapes which I edged with ink and dry embossed with a Simon Says Stamp folder called Jubilee.

The images are from the new Pinkfresh Studio Butterfly Bliss product suite and coloured using my older Altenew inks.

The sentiment is by the Ton Stamps.

Sakura Hello

Hi there!

Today I’m playing along with this month’s  Pinkfresh Studio challenge which has the optional theme and colour combo. I opted to use the theme which is ‘Floral Frenzy’ – perfect for most Pinkfresh designs!

Today I’m using the Sakura product suite that I picked up from Dies to Die for over Easter. I was fortunate to get the last set as this was released a year ago now – before I really discovered Pinkfresh. I didn’t get the Washi so will have to get that from another store at some point.

I really think this is my favourite Pinkfresh product suite so far – the stamps stamp beautifully with a lovely thin outline – almost like their red rubber cling stamps and the images are so easy to colour with the stencils. I’ve gone with the traditional combo for today’s card but I can’t wait to colour this in different colours – so much fun!

To complete my card I added a lacy vellum die cut, a few gold dots and a sentiment by Creative Expressions.

Happy Easter 2025

Hi there and Happy Easter!

Here’s the card I made for my mum using a beautiful new Waffle Flower layered stencil set called Mod Blossoms.

I love how effective these layered stencils are – this was a small set – only 2 stencils, so it was quick and easy to use and the reveal was so special. Stencilling has completely evolved from the old days of metal stencils, lightboxes and chalk!

The sentiment is by Poppystamps and the bow is from a set by Simon Says Stamp.

Egg Week 2025 Bonus card

Hi there!

I’m still making Easter cards! Today I’m sharing the card I made for my dad using an older die set by Memory Box called Half a Dozen Eggs.

I was inspired by Laura Bassen’s card made with nesting egg dies six years ago. I decided to use shades of blue – but totally underestimated how difficult it would be to come up with a combo of blue card that I was happy with! I think I looked at every piece of blue card/paper in my craft room!

I used foam tape for dimension between layers but this does mean that the card is VERY thick…. just under 1cm I think! Fortunately it stands up ok, but I was a bit worried as I was adhering all the layers!

The sentiment is by Creative Expressions.

Egg Week 2025 Day 7

Hi there!

It’s Day 7 of LucieG’s Egg Week 2025! How can that be? I still have many ideas and unused product!

Today I focussed on the Simon Says Stamp Floral Egg embossing folder. I actually bought this on release day earlier this year – which is rare for me, I usually take my time with Simons products. But this just spoke to me – maybe because it reminded me so much of this card that I made my mum last Easter using lots of different embossing folders.

The sentiment is by Reverse Confetti and is cut from some fabulous Simons luxe glitter card.
