Technique – die cutting

Featuring die cutting

Christmas in July 2020 – Day 17

Happy Friyay!

Welcome to Day 17 of Christmas in July! Today I’m playing along with one of my favourite challenges – the Color Throwdown challenge. This week’s colour palette is blue, green, peach and gold. I really like the shades in the challenge graphic this week so I knew I had to used my Speckled Egg distress oxide for the green! I decided to create a little Christmas tree scene using the fabulous Quirky Christmas set by Avery Elle!

I used a stencil to add some glittery snow to my card base and adhered the trees using foam tape.

To complete my card, I added a sentiment by Reverse Confetti.

Christmas in July 2020 – Day 16

Hello everyone!

Welcome to Day 16 of Christmas in July! Today I’m playing along with the 52 Christmas Card Throwdown! This week, they have a colour challenge – all white. Only black is allowed for the sentiment.

You would not believe the issues I had with this card! I knew I wanted to use the Holiday Mistletoe die from Poppystamps, but the background was a NIGHTMARE! I tried a dry embossed background, a background stamped with white snowflakes, and the Simon Says Stamp Sketched frame die. Nothing felt ‘right’ to me. Then I decided to dry emboss the frame. And the issues continues – the Gemini cut through some of the die, then crinkled the card and then my purple tape took a layer of cardstock when I peeled it off. Argh! Finally I got an impression that was OK. but wonky, so I cut down the panel and adhered that to the card base. After adding the beautiful die cut and a Mama Elephant sentiment, I applied some clear Nuvo drops. I was so worried that I was going to smudge them after all my problems. But I didn’t! Phew!

Christmas in July 2020 – Day 15

Hello everyone!

Welcome to Day 15 of  Christmas in July! Today I’m playing along with the Case this Sketch challenge.

When I say the sketch I thought of a beautiful Snowflake Breeze die from Poppystamps. I haven’t played with it for a while, so it was definitely time to bring it out of hibernation! I cut an ink blended panel and played around with the positioning. It’s such a pretty die, I couldn’t bring myself to cut it up so I decided to create a landscape card instead!

To complete my card, I added a sentiment by Hero Arts and a few gems and sequins!

Christmas in July 2020 – Day 14

Hello again everyone!

So last Saturday, I was making a card for a sketch challenge, but couldn’t quite bring myself to cut up the background I coloured and I ended up going with something else. So, today, I used that background – with minimal cutting!

I heat embossed the pretty Simon Says Stamp Poinsettia background stamp and coloured it using my twinkling H2O paints. I splattered some gold dots and adhered it to a metallic gold panel. To complete my card, I added a die cut sentiment from Winnie & Walter.

I’m entering this into the current Inspirational challenge where the theme is painting or colouring.

Christmas in July 2020 – Day 13

Hello everyone and welcome to Day 13 of Christmas in July 2020!

Today was super busy and I didn’t have much time to craft. I pulled out the wonderful Creative Expressions Paper Cuts Reindeer and paired it with a background I created some time ago using Ken Oliver Color Bursts – they really shimmer in real life! I added a small sentiment by Mama Elephant to complete my CAS card.

Christmas in July 2020 – Day 12

Happy Sunday all!

Welcome to Day 12 of Christmas in July! Today I’m playing along with one of my favourite challenges – the Color Throwdown challenge. This week’s colour palette (orange, green, burgundy and pink) didn’t scream ‘festive’ at me like last week but I realised that I could make it work with some of my newest Simply Graphic dies! I decided to just colour the leaves and berries with distress ink – I quite like how it turned out!

I usually apply the ‘rule of three’ when adding stems to my vases but I couldn’t find any that worked here, but luckily I don’t think it feels to unbalanced, do you?

To complete my card, I added a sentiment by Mama Elephant and a few sequins!
