Technique – die cutting

Featuring die cutting

Peach Blossom

Hello friends!

Next today I’m playing along with the Color Throwdown challenge which has another stunning colour palette this week – pink, peach and green.

To start, I lightly blended some distress ink on my card base and then lifted some ink through a butterfly stencil. Next, I coloured the Frame Builder Botanical Oval die set from Pinkfresh using my Twinkling H2O paints and adhered it to my card base. I adhered a Mama Elephant sentiment to an Avery Elle banner and finally added some Studio Katia gems to complete my card.

AAA Up to one third with interesting twist

Hi there!

I seriously can’t believe we’re into May, can you? It’s time for a new challenge at AAA Cards – we’d like you to create a card using up to one third of your card base.

So this week’s optional twist confused me a bit because I wasn’t too sure what ‘mystical beasts’ are – I’ve always thought of mystical as being spirtual or supernatural…. Anyway, Google sent me to ‘mythical creatures/beasts/animals’ whenever I searched for ‘mystical beasts’ so in the end I went with mythical and chose the fabulous Hero Arts phoenix die!

I lightly traced a few points from the die on to a piece of card to help my graduated ink blending and then cut out the image after I’d finished blending. I was a little concerned that there would be too much yellow, but I was so pleased when I pulled the die away!

To complete my card, I stamped a sentiment from an older Hero Arts/Basic Grey collaboration set.

My team mates have come up with some beautiful cards which are on the AAA Cards challenge blog. We are also joined a previous challenge winner and one of my favourite cardmakers, Pam, who has some amazing die cut cards on her blog.

Hope you can play along with us!

[Small edit to make it clearer that my confusion was over the word ‘mystical’ rather than ‘beast’!!]

Leafy Best wishes

Happy Friyay Friends!

Today I’m playing along with the sketch challenge over at CAS Colours and Sketches using products from Penny Black.

This simple CAS card came together so quickly! I cut the fabulous Viridescent leaf die (51-650) from some patterned paper and adhered some of the leaf centre elements back into the leaves using sticky tape. To give my leaf a little more solidity, I adhered it to a second leaf that I’d cut from white card. I then die cut three strips using the wonderful  Geometric Borders (51-196) and adhered them to my card base. I chose to cut them from white cardstock as I wanted to keep the card very clean.

I stamped a sentiment from the Snippets set (30-283) and then die cut it using a tag die from the Tagged dies set (51-007) – I actually shortened the length of the tag using the partial die cutting technique.

Cherry Tree

Hi Everyone!

My card for today uses the colours from this week’s CAS Colours & Sketches challenge.

I used the amazing Fir & Foliage No 1 stamp and die set from The Greetery to create this bright cherry blossom tree, together with the Whittle Clouds dies by Poppystamps and a  Simon Says Stamp sentiment.

Memory Box Stems

Happy SaturdayEveryone!

The theme of the Memory Box / Outside the Box challenge is ‘paint’ which had me stumped for a while because I was thinking of distress and acrylic paints. Then I realised the theme would also cover watercolour paints as well! So I pulled out all my recent Memory Box stem (Wildeflower Stems, Daisy Stems and Seed Stems) and got to work with my watercolours. I smooshed and splattered some Speckled Egg and Frayed Burlap distress oxide ink on my card base and then adhered the stems. I added the Memory Box Jotted Script Hello die to finish it off.
