Technique – die cutting

Featuring die cutting

Christmas in July 2021 – Day 12

Hello Everyone

Welcome to Day 12 of Christmas in July 2021! Today I’m playing along with the Male Room Challenge which has a Christmas in July theme. I decided to use my Penny Black supplies again today.

I knew I wanted to use the fabulous Prestige die (51-154) with an inky background. That was my first stumbling block. I spent far too long creating a blended background… which I ended up not liking and so I had to redo my main image using an inky background I created a while ago!

Then came my card base. First of all I used a background stamp but decided it would detract from the focal point. After trying a die cut background, I ended up using a stamp from the versatile Trims set (30-068). I added a sentiment from the Holiday Snippets set (30-307). Finally I added a little bird from the Birds and Banners die set (51-352).

Edited to add:

So, after I shared this card, I STILL wasn’t happy! I felt that my bird was a little lost so I coloured another one with a bit of Speckled Egg distress ink. Et voila! I think I prefer this version… which one do you prefer, dear crafters?

Christmas in July 2021 – Day 10

Happy Saturday everyone!

Welcome to Day 10 of Christmas in July 2021! Today I’m playing along with the Color Throwdown challenge which has a palette of yellow, grey, black and white.

I was quite short on time today but I managed to grab a few moments this evening to make this card with the beautiful Memory Box Flowering Christmas Tree which I coloured with distress inks. I seriously can’t believe this tree is from 2011! Anyway, I added a sentiment by Simon Says Stamp, a pot from an Altenew die set and some gems to complete my card.

Christmas in July 2021 – Day 9

Hello everyone!

Welcome to Day 9 of Christmas in July 2021! I had one of those days today – a troublesome task which took MUCH longer than hoped and which will drag on due to a few technical hitches. Ugh!

So I wasn’t really in the most creative frame of mind this evening… but I had to make a Christmas in July card. So, this is just for fun, no challenges today – just a super quick die cut card using the Memory Box Antique Pine Label die, the Poppystamps Winterberries die and a couple of smaller Simply Graphic dies. All coloured with distress oxides inks! The sentiment is by Simon Says Stamp.

Christmas in July 2021 – Day 8

Happy Thursday everyone!

Welcome to Day 8 of Christmas in July 2021! Today I’m playing along with the sketch challenge at Freshly Made Sketches and the current Color Hues challenge.

I used another recent purchase – the fabulous Bottlebrush Trees by Spellbinders and lots of different blue distress inks for the background.

To complete my card, I added a sentiment by Mama Elephant – their sentiment sets are turning into my go-to set AGAIN for this Christmas in July!!

Thanks for stopping by!

Christmas in July 2021 – Day 7

Hello everyone!

Welcome to Day 7 of Christmas in July 2021! Today I’m playing along with the CAS Christmas Card Challenge! The challenge theme is poinsettia so I thought it was the perfect time to use my brand new Sizzix Poinsettia Impresslits embossing folder.

I originally bought it to try the embossing powder/distress crayon technique that Tim Holtz demonstrated a year or so ago, but so far I have failed miserably! I think my embossing dauber is completely clogged as I can’t get decent coverage with it. I will keep trying.

So in the meantime, I coloured the poinsettia with my beloved Twinkling H2O paints. I stencilled some glitter paste to my card base and then added an Elizabeth Crafts Designs oval die cut before adhering the flower.

The die cut sentiment is by Crealies – I love that clean font!

Christmas in July 2021 – Day 6

Hello everyone!

Welcome to Day 6 of Christmas in July 2021! Today I’m playing along with the The Paper Players challenge where the theme is stars and/or stripes!

I’ve been wanting to use this large bold Christmas Bubble Tree by Couture Creations since I bought it straight after Christmas. So funny! I thought it was quite a new design but looking at the packaging, it’s actually from 2014! Wow!

Anyway, I started by creating an ink blended oval with distress inks. Then I adhered the tree die cut and added a few die cut stars.

To complete my take, I added a sentiment by Mama Elephant.
