Technique – colouring

Featuring colouring other than watercolouring

Merry Geo Tree

Hi there!

I must say that the inspiration board for September’s Pin-sights Challenge is absolutely gorgeous. In my view the best I’ve seen!  So many possibilities….

In the end, I went with something totally outside my comfort zone – I created a watercolour background using a number of colours from the board.

When I was happy with how that was looking, I added some gold watercolour – love how this turned out!

I cut out the tree using the Ellen Hutson/Essentials by Ellen Geo tree die set and used it to cover a section of my finished background. Finally, I added an Essentials by Ellen sentiment to complete the card. I was toying with adding a few stars to the background, but decided to keep it CAS.

And the added bonus? I still have enough of my background left to use in more cards, so don’t be surprised if you see it make a reappearance here before Christmas!

I’m also entering this into this week’s Less is More challenge as the theme is ‘watercolour’.

A bouquet of thoughts

Hi everyone!

Today’s is the last day of the current Daily Marker 30 Day colouring challenge. It’s such a fun challenge and I’m so grateful that the sweet Kathy Racoosin does this for our community!

I stamped a wonderful floral image by Stampendous and coloured it with my Twinkling H2Os. I stuck it to a card base and added a Clearly Besotted sentiment, some stickles and a few sequins to finish off the card.

I’m entering this into the Simon Says Stamp Wednesday challenge – ‘anything goes’.

Think Big!

The cue word for this week’s Casology challenge is ‘big’ and I thought it would be a great opportunity to play with my fabulous Cityscape dies from Altenew. Alas, EVERYTHING went wrong with this card, and it took me ages to create. I should’ve known it wasn’t going to be easy when the dies weren’t where they should’ve been…. the packaging was, just no dies!

I was sorely tempted to enter yesterday’s HUGE card into the challenge, but I persevered and I’m glad I did! The dies are fun to play with!

I created my own shimmer paper for the buildings using some Tonic Studios Embellishment Mousse. Unfortunately, it had dried up, but I added some water and it seemed to be fine! I also used my Prismacolor pencils to create the background – really unusual for me as I usually rely on my distress inks for that. It was good to practice with my pencils!

I feel I need to add a sentiment to the top right – like I did the first time I used this die set. I’ve seen the ‘perfect’ stamp and it will be going in my basket the next time I place an order!

Let’s eat cake

Hello Everyone!

For this card, I stamped and cut some Simon Says Stamp cupcakes which I then coloured using my Twinking H2Os. I stuck them to a few layers of My Mind’s Eye papers and finally added a ‘Happy Birthday’ die cut also from Simon Says Stamp.

Side note: I popped into my favourite cupcake shop last week – the Primrose Bakery in London. I can honestly say they have the best cupcakes I have ever tasted and they always have ‘special’ varieties on the counter. Last week’s special was ‘rhubarb and custard’ and was my colour inspiration:

Autumn in the air

Happy Sunday everyone!

It’s time for a new challenge over at AAA Cards. The days are getting shorter and the weather is definitely crisper – yes, autumn is in air here in the UK so it seems apt that this fortnight’s theme is ‘Autumn Colours’. Uniko is our sponsor.

For my card, I used a stamp from my favourite Simon Says Stamp set (Fractile Leaves) plus a sentiment from Winnie & Walter which I inked up with Delicata brown shimmer ink which I covered in clear embossing powder.

Can we just take a moment to admire that Delicata ink? It is soooo shimmery! Absolutely gorgeous!

Anyway, I coloured the image with my Prismacolor pencil and then blended with baby oil. First time doing that and I love the effect – will be using it again! Anyway, I resisted the urge to add some bling. I think this could make quite a good maculine card, do you?

I’m also entering this into the current Simon Says Stamp Wednesday challenge – clean and simple.

My teammates have shared some gorgeous CAS cards on the AAA Cards blog and we are also joined by our Guest Designer, the super-talented Hannelie from Desert Diva. I’m sure many of you already know her and her amazing creations – but for those of you who don’t, you should definitely drop by her site – you are in for a treat!

Thanks for stopping by – I do hope you play along with us!

Fabulous You!

Hi everyone!

So today I stepped away from the Simon Says Stamp Fractile Leaves set and played with some of my other new Stamptember goodies – including the gorgeous Fabulous You set by Altenew for Stamptember.

I must say, I found this set very easy to use and just created this very quick card using Altenew inks, some distress inks and my Twinkling H2Os, stickles and some sequins to add a bit of sparkle. Looking at it now thought, I’m wondering if I added too many ink splatters to the background?

I’m entering this into the Simon Says Stamp Flickr challenge – ‘stamp it’.
