Feline Batty!

Hello everyone!

Just popping in with a quick card that I made for the October Poppystamps challenge where the theme is ‘falling leaves and scary things’.

I chose the latter – although the cute batty feline doesn’t actually look too scary, does he?!

After stamping, cutting and colouring the images, I adhered them onto my new Benedetti frame. Isn’t it a gorgeous die? I LOVE art deco and just had to have it as soon as I saw it… well I really wanted most of the new Art Deco release, but had to exercise some self-restraint!

Anyway, thanks for stopping by!

Celebrating Kindness

Happy Sunday everyone!

It’s time for a new challenge over at AAA Cards and this fortnight we are celebrating kindness. Stamplorations is our sponsor.

Before I talk about my card, I wanted to take a few moments to share a story which sums up what ‘kindness’ means to me…

Some time ago, I was sitting in the doctors’ waiting room. It was around 5.30 on a Friday night and I became aware of a phone conversation the receptionist was having. It was clear that the patient at the other end of the line had run out of vital meds and was unable to get to the surgery or pharmacy to collect a prescription. The receptionist made multiple calls but couldn’t find anyone to help before the surgery closed. In the end, she got the onsite pharmacy to make up the prescription and rang the patient to let her know that she would drop off the medication before going home.

That’s kindness to me. Someone going above and beyond to help someone else and not expecting anything at all in return.

Sometimes in this day and age, it’s easy to forget that these acts of kindness are actually all around us. But they are and it’s amazing how much a simple ‘thank you’ means to people like the receptionist who was just doing what she felt was right; she probably didn’t even label it at an ‘act of kindness’.

So today my card honours those humble, kind souls.

I stamped a PaperArtsy image and coloured it using my Twinkling H2O paints. I splattered some paint lightly around the image and then added the stamped sentiment together with the die cut ‘thanks’. To finish off the card, I added some extra shimmer to the flowers using my Nuvo Aqua Shimmer glitter gloss aquabrush.

My teammates have shared some gorgeous CAS cards on the AAA Cards blog, together with our sponsor Shery from Stamplorations and the talented Trina from Phamtastic Design as our Guest Designer. Trina is a regular player winner (!) in our challenges – she has some beautiful CAS creations and wait until you see what she has come up with for this challenge! Stunning!

Thanks for stopping by – I do hope you play along with us!

Happy Autumn owls

Hello everyone!

I’ve been wanting to ink up my Pretty Pink Posh Autumn Wreath stamps for a while now and today was the day!

I coloured the wreath with my Twinkling H2Os and then cut it with the coordinating die. I created a watermark-effect background by stamping some of the single images from the set onto my card base in Versamark ink.

I then cut a couple of the Poppystamps Whittle Owls and coloured them with distress oxide inks. To finish off the card, I added a die cut sentiment from Memory Box.

Thanks for stopping by!

Stamptember fun!

HI there!

So.. September was a crazy month and I didn’t have much time for crafting, not even when my Stamptember products arrived from Simon Says Stamp! Pretty disappointing!

I’ve finally had time to sit down at my craft table and guess what… my mojo had gone AWOL. So annoying!

Anyway, I EVENTUALLY made a card with the SSS Festive Trees set. I loved this set and this particular stamp when I saw it in August sneak peaks! There are four trees which are fun to colour.

I coloured this tree with Hero Arts metallic paint which was diluted with a bit of water. It is soooo shimmery in real life!

I used a SSS stencil for the background and added a sentiment from My Sentiments Exactly to finish off my card.

I’m entering this into the current Simon Says Stamp Wednesday challenge – Christmas.

Thanks for stopping by!

Enjoy your day

Hi everyone!

Today I have my next DT post for Crafts-U-Love using the ‘Always Flowers’ stamp set by Pink Fresh Studio. As usual, links to all the products are at the end of my post.

I noticed that my past couple of DT cards have been rather pink, so I was determined to use a different palette this time!

Step 1 – ink blending

Over the past few years, my style has definitely changed and I always tend to make my own backgrounds. My piles of pretty patterned paper are quite unloved, but I just can’t bear to part with them. I’m sure I’ll end up using them at some point (maybe!).

Anyway, when I started on today’s card, I hadn’t decided the size, so I used a larger piece of cardstock and blended three distress oxide inks. This ink is fabulous for blending!

Step 2 – stamping

Once I was happy with my blending, I randomly stamped images from the stamp set.

Step 3 – ink lifting

One of my favourite techniques with distress ink (regular and oxide) is ink lifting. I usually do this with larger images, but it’s easy to do with smaller images too.  I simply ‘painted’ water onto each image and then blotted it off to remove the ink. As usual, when working with smaller images, it’s best to use a small brush for all that detail work, and also ensure that the brush isn’t too wet. I also made sure to wipe off my brush at regular intervals – otherwise I’d start applying some of the colour I’d just removed!!

Quick, easy and effective! Once I finished, I almost stopped and started to assemble the card as I love the effect so much!

Step 4 – colouring

But in the end I decided to watercolour the images using my distress inks, diluted with a bit of water.

After colouring the images, I felt that the gaps between the images was a little too large so I stamped a couple of images from the Pinkfresh Studio ‘Happy’ set.

I then cut down the panel to fit on a square card base. I stamped a Hero Arts sentiment onto a strip of card which I adhered to the base. (The remainder of the background card will go into my ‘bases box’ as I know I can use it on another card!) I then stamped, coloured and fussy cut a couple of flowers and adhered them and a few gems to finish off the card.

I’m also entering this card into the current Pinkfresh Studio challenge as I was inspired by their summer theme and loved their colour palette (although I was determined to stay away from pink!)

Thanks for stopping by!

Always a good idea

Hi everyone!

It’s time for my next Crafts-U-Love Design Team post and today I challenged myself to use every single product that I was kindly sent for this month and keep ‘own supplies’ to a minimum. And look! I managed to create a CAS card too!

This month I received the ‘Always Flowers’ stamp set by Pinkfresh Studio and decided to use the largest floral image as my centre piece. After stamping the image, I painted it using some Nuvo Mica Mist that I had poured into a watercolour palette. I coloured the leaves with regular distress ink and used a Nuvo marker for the centres.

After stamping my sentiment, I applied just one spritz of mica mist over the whole card and added a thin layer of Nuvo glitter to the flower centres (as this glitter glue dries opaque, I made sure the layer was quite thin so you could still see the yellow of the centres).

Et voila! My CAS card!

Thanks for stopping by!
