Color Throwdown

Hello everyone!

It was so sad to read the tributes to Barbara Anders on the Color Throwdown blog this week. I had noticed that she had stopped designing a while ago as I always loved seeing her cards, she created some amazing inspiration. I also loved her joy of travelling and in particular her IG posts from my home town – her sense of adventure and love of travel and appreciation of her surroundings really touched me.

I send my heartfelt condolences to her husband, family and friends including the CTD team members past and present who shared such beautiful words. She touched many hearts and will be very missed.

The combo this week is orange, cream and kraft and I used a variety of Spellbinders products for my take. The sentiment is by Technique Tuesday.

Ghost Week – Day 1

Hi there!

Welcome to Day 1 of Ghost Week!

For someone who doesn’t celebrate Halloween, I certainly have a LOT of Halloween crafty products. Each year I tell myself ‘No more’ and each year some slip into that crafty basket.

October has been busy so I haven’t had as much crafty time as I would have liked (does one ever?!) but I just came up with the idea of Ghost Week in the hopes of making use of my new Halloween dies… let’s see how we get on!

Of course as I’m supposed to be using new products, my ghost card today uses an old Spellbinders set that I’ve had for a couple of years. I cut the ghosts from felt that has sparkly flecks and added glittery stars and the sentiment from the set to a base that I’d covered with Craft Consortium paper.

Primary Tree

Hello again!

Next up today is my entry in this week’s Color Throwdown challenge which has a primary combo of red, yellow and blue. One of my very first entries into the Color Throwdown was for this very combo in 2016, before I had this blog, but I did create this card for another primary combo in 2021. I have to confess that I find this combo very challenging and I was going to skip it until I saw the little chubby tree card I created a few weeks ago which combined an aqua/blue tree and red pearls… and so I was inspired to get crafty!

I saw a card using the Stampin’ Up Decorative Trees on Instagram in mid September. I rarely buy from Stampin’ Up partly because I’ve found their dispatch to be very slow and I’m very impatient for new goodies. But I liked the trees so much that I said that I would get them the next time I spotted an offer on shipping. I checked and there was a post for free shipping the very next day! I could not believe it! And to top it off, the order was actually shipped two days later!

Anyway, I used a couple of tree dies for this card, together with a circle die from The Greetery and a Spellbinders embossing folder.

The sentiment is by Mama Elephant.

Fluttering Butterflies

Hello again!

Next up today is my entry in this week’s Color Throwdown challenge which has a fun combo of yellow, pink and orange.

I fell in love with the beautiful Pinkfresh Studios Fluttering Butterflies product suite in August when only the dies and washi tape were available here in the UK. Fortunately Bumbleberry’s got the stamps and stencils in stock in September and I grabbed them straightaway!

I can’t believe I haven’t managed to use them but when I saw this week’s colour combo, I knew it was finally time to play with them!

I used Altenew inks to colour the butterflies and a Spellbinders embossing folder to complete my card.

Halloween Butterflies

Hello again!

Next up today is my entry in this week’s Color Throwdown challenge which has a beautiful and unusual combo of burnt orange, black and sage.

I saw this sentiment online over the weekend – I think it was Instagram, but I can’t find it again now. But anyway it really made me stop and think… I decided it would be perfect to create some colourful bats from patterned paper for this week’s challenge.

Believe me, if you had told me a few years ago, hey even 48 hours ago, that I would be making a BAT card, I would NEVER have believed you. The bats have clearly recruited an excellent publicist this year!

I actually thought I had a lot of bat dies but when I looked through my supplies they were generally small and coordinating dies. So I chose some from a Spellbinders Halloween set that I bought a few years ago and got cutting.

I printed the sentiment onto some mottle-effect card that I have had forever and cut it with an irregular circle die to create a moon.

This was super difficult to photograph in my photo box – I may try to take the photos again in natural daylight…

Christmas in July 2024 – Bonus Day

Hello All!

Well it’s the  first day of August! I can’t believe Christmas in July is over!  I have thoroughly enjoyed the challenge I set myself and I know I will be grateful to have all these cards in November when I will need them!

Anyway, as my Spellbinders Christmas in July package arrived yesterday, I carried on with my Christmas crafting so this is my Bonus Christmas in July card!

I used the fabulous Bibi Cameron Snowflake card Creator die set which I have coveted since it was released last year. This is one of those dies that I really wanted to see in real life before committing. Oh how I wish I still had one of the four bricks and mortar shops that I used to have within a 45 minute drive. Anyway, it was half price in the sale so I decided to get it. And it is BIG – 15cm point to point for the base. It quite an optical illusion though because this card doesn’t feel that bid.

I folded a sheet of A4 card in half and then hung part of the die over the crease – this way I still had a hinged card base after it was cut. I gave up a sheet of 6×6 holographic card for the detailed snowflake – which is surprisingly delicate! Once that was glued down, I decided that I wanted to add some more snowflakes rather than the foliage that comes with the set. I used Memory Box’s Star Snowflake Discs.

Finally I added a sentiment from the Many Merry Christmas Sentiments set, also a Spellbinders bargain. I have to confess though, I bought the whole set because of this particular sentiment which is so me!
