Daffodil delight

Hi there!

A few weeks ago I made a card to celebrate the arrival of the first daffodil of the year in my garden and I’ve been wanting to use the fabulous Spellbinders/Simon Hurley Daffodil Frame die set again.

So today was the day. I decided that I would use this card as my entry into the Spellbinders Cardmaking Star contest and wanted to just use Spellbinders products (although non-Spellbinders products were permitted).

Once again, I cut the main daffodils image from the frame and used it with the separate flower and leaf layers.

I created a pot using half of the central section from the Infinity Punch & Pierce plate and then coloured all images with distress inks.

I made a stencil from the Essential Stylish Ovals die set and lightly blended an oval on a white card panel. I then embossed the panel using the Flower Frenzy folder and arranged the die cuts. I added a sentiment from the Butterfly Sentiments stamp set to complete my card.

Spring Teapot

Hi there!

I was so surprised to see a daffodil appear in my garden this week – it seemed so early.. although my narcissi have been up for a while! And then I saw a LOT of daffodils in my neighbours’ gardens – spring is springing and I’m ready for it!

The palette for this week’s Color Throwdown challenge is peach, yellow and green – perfect for a daffodil card! I pulled out the fabulous Spellbinders/Simon Hurley Daffodil Frame die set and got cutting! I’ve loved this set since it came out so I was delighted to pick it up in their Christmas sale. As the die set has separate flower and leaf layers, I knew I would be able to cut the main image from the frame and use it in different formats – which is just what I’ve done here!

I paired it with Memory Box’s Grandma’s Teapot and coloured all the images with distress ink.

I arranged the die cuts on a base that I’d embossed with a Spellbinders’ folder and I added a few die cut flowers to teapot as well as a Memory Box sentiment to complete my card.

A new Easter embossing folder

Hi there!

I’m always on the look out for new Easter embossing folders and have been a bit bemused that they are few and far between.

But this week, while searching for something completely different online, I came across the most beautiful folder by Spellbinders! It’s their February 3D embossing folder of the month so I immediately signed up! I couldn’t believe it when it landed on my door mat this morning!

So I just had to use it on my entry for this week’s challenge at Freshly Made Sketches – the sketch just said ‘Easter Egg’ to me!

I paired the folder with some other Spellbinders die and a Simon Says Stamp sentiment.

Merry Berry Wreath

Happy Festive Friyay!

Today I’m playing along with the current theme challenge over at the 52 Christmas Card Throwdown!

I finally got my hands on Simon Says Stamp Berry Wreath dies set after their Thanksgiving sale last year and used it just once – for my mum’s Christmas card. So naturally I thought of it as soon as I saw the challenge theme. Although it’s only been a month since Christmas, I was VERY excited to play with this die set again.

I coloured all the die cuts with distress ink and adhered it to a base that I had embossed with a Spellbinders folder.

The sentiment is by Savvy Stamps.

Privet branch

Hi there!

Today I’m playing along in the Color Throwdown challenge which has a fun combo of blue, olive and ivory.

Continuing my quest to Use New Things, I started with my new Simon Says Stamp Privet Branch die set and decided it would nestle nicely in the centre of the Spellbinders Infinity Punch & Pierce Plate, which isn’t in my new stuff box but I’ve only used once.

I created an panel with the Holly Branch distress mica stain for the privet die and cut the background plate from some shimmery ivory card. I then coloured a background panel with various shades of distress in and adhered all the elements.

To complete my card I added a Spellbinders sentiment.

Christmas Card Throwdown – January 2024 Guest Spot

Hello everyone!

I’m honoured to be the Guest Designer for the first sketch challenge of 2024 over at the 52 Christmas Card Throwdown!

When I saw the sketch, I immediately thought of a bauble for the main image and a hanger/bow for the smaller one. Then began the hunt for the ‘perfect’ bauble. I have lots of bauble images but most were either too big or too small! In the end I landed on a die set by Tim Holtz/Sizzix. I cut off the spike at the bottom of my first die cut to make it more similar to the sketch but decided that it looked a bit weird! I coloured the die cut pieces with distress inks and added a few bows to the ornament to reflect the smaller image in the die set.

The background is embossed with a Spellbinders folder and the sentiment is from an older Hero Arts wood-mounted set.

The Design Team have some amazing inspiration over on the challenge blog – you must check it out! Hope you can play along with the challenge!
