Shiny Valentine

Hello everyone!

Tday I’m playing along in the Color Throwdown challenge with a Valentine’s card using non-traditional colours!

I received an order from Simon Says Stamp this morning – I picked up a few of their embossing folders in a sale last month! Anyway, I could not wait to play, so I misted the reverse of some satin cardstock and got embossing with the Pinpoint Starlets folder. I love the deep embossing folders but I am very careful after the Great Pinecone Plethora Trauma of 2021! Anyway, I have found it easier to put a cutting plate on top of the embossing folder rather than below it – I find it ensures this satin cardstock stays in place.

I left the cardstock dry and die cut the hearts using a few Memory Box heart dies. I then adhered the Poppystamps Doodle Happy Valentine’s Day on the gold heart before sticking all the hearts onto the embossed base. I have to say this was very difficult to photograph but I got there in the end!

The Simon Says Stamp Wednesday Challenge has a theme of embossing this week, so I’m also entering this card over there!

Etched Flower Buds

Hello everyone!

Today I’m playing along with the colour challenge at CAS Colours and Sketches and the Simon Says Stamp Flickr challenge where the theme is die cutting.

It’s been a while since I played with Simon Says Stamp products but I haven’t yet had a chance to play with some SSS dies that I bought in their Thanksgiving sale and I thought they’d be perfect for the soft colour combo. I cut the Etched Flower Buds die together with the leaves from the Etched Meadow Flower die set and coloured them with distress ink. I stencilled some Nuvo Moonstone glitter paste onto my card base and added the flowers once it had dried. Finally I added a sentiment from the Messages For Everyday set.

A Seasonal Arrangement

Hello everyone!

Today I’m playing along with the last Color Throwdown challenge of 2021 and it has such a pretty, peaceful palette – mint, red and pink.

Rather than use my go-to white card base, I chose a light grey as neutrals are allowed! I decided to create an arrangement using the Memory Box Antique Pine Label die and some stems/flowers from the Spellbinders Christmas Blooms set.  During Christmas in July, I discovered the perfect sentiment for this die cut (by Simon Says Stamp) so I’ve used that again this time!

Day 24 – 25 Days of Christmas Tags 2021

Hi everyone!

As Tracey McNeely isn’t running her 25 Days of Christmas Tags event this year, I have created my own event using 25 days from Tracey’s event posts over the last decade, as I explained in this post.

Day 24’s inspiration is Day 4, 2020. Newton’s Nook Day! Here’s what I created in 2020.

I wanted to do ‘something different’ for this tag as it felt like I’d stamped and coloured quite a few images during the tag challenge! So I chose Andrea’s bold tag as my inspiration. I used a Newton’s Nook stencil and some silver luna paste. Very happy with how that turned out! Embellishing the tag was much more challenging! First of all I added some pine springs but they didn’t look right… In the end, I used an older Hero Arts wood-mounted stamp embossed in teal glitter powder plus a glittery Simon Says Stamp die cut!

Day 22 – 25 Days of Christmas Tags 2021

Hi everyone!

As Tracey McNeely isn’t running her 25 Days of Christmas Tags event this year, I have created my own event using 25 days from Tracey’s event posts over the last decade, as I explained in this post.

Day 22’s inspiration is Day 19, 2012. As I’ve mentioned before, Tracey’s style was super CAS back in the day – which I love! The tag she created was super simple and I went with my own take on super simple – a single die cut image! This die from Simon Says Stamp.

Day 1 – 25 Days of Christmas Tags 2021

Hi everyone!

Last year, I played along with Tracey McNeely’s 25 Days of Christmas Tags for the fourth year in a row. I absolutely love this event as it significantly reduced the last-minute crafty stress that I used to have about by gift tags! Sadly, having started this annual event in 2011, Tracey has decided that she won’t be continuing with it this year. But happily we all have 10 years of tag inspiration on her site!

So, I decided to create my own event! I randomly selected 25 days from Tracey’s event blog posts from 2011 to 2020 and will be using those tags as my own inspiration!

So for Day 1, the inspiration comes from Day 20, 2011.

I loved that this tag had so many elements to it – the stamped kraft background, the patterned paper and the cutest reindeer ever! For my take, I used newer products by My Favorite Things and Simon Says Stamp plus a wood-mounted Stampendous reindeer stamp from 2005!
