Colourful Autumn Boots

Hi everyone!

We had a few days of unseasonably warm weather recently so I’ve spent a lot of time in my garden – weeding and getting it ready for winter. Today I decided I had earned a crafty day and felt that it was the right time to colour the image from the gorgeous Autumn Boots stamp set (31-013) that Penny Black kindly sent me last month. I will confess, I was a bit nervous to colour this image – especially the boots! I just want to do the image justice!

So I tried something different this time – rather than rely solely on my Twinkling H2O paints to colour, I got out some masking paper, masked off sections of the image and use distress inks for the boots and the pumpkins. Yes, it was a bit fiddly but totally worth it! I toyed with adding some coloured pencil details to the pumpkins in particular but decided to leave it this time.

As I had stamped the whole image onto making paper, I actually cut out some leaves and a bird and used them to mask off parts of the image when I created my background with the large circle stencil from the Background Basics set (25-021). I don’t usually do this when I create my backgrounds, but it meant that I didn’t have to lift any distress ink from the stamped image.

Penny Black has some amazing autumn sentiments but I just has to choose one of my favourites from the Autumn is Calling set (30-863).

Harvest of Sweet Memories

Hello everyone!

I have a few posts today as I share cards I made recently for a few challenges that close today.

First up is my entry in the Color Throwdown challenge using some products kindly sent to me by Penny Black.

The combo this week is mossy green, rust, kraft and cream – another set that’s perfect for autumnal cards!

I have to say the background was a labour of love! I cut the Leaf Pattern die (51-432) from a panel of cream cardstock. I put the main image to one side (you may see that later this autumn!) and adhered the frame and 3,000 tiny leaves to the card base.  I used the die cut image as a guide to position all the leaves and then worked in sections, picking up gluing down about 8 at a time. It didn’t take too long really!

All the stamped images are from the fabulous Owlsome set (30-718) – I just adore that owl with his leafy ears and wings! And the separate leaves are so pretty! I coloured them with my Twinkling H2O paints and added some stickles too – I wish you could see how sparkly this is in real life!

The sentiment is from the Always Thankful set (30-932).

Harvest love

Hello friends!

Today I’m playing along with the current sketch challenge over at The Paper Players using products kindly sent to me by Penny Black.

First I cut and embossed the four background strips with the Variegated embossing folder (65-008) and then turned my attention to my focal point. I chose the largest pumpkin and foliage from the Pumpkin Parade die set and used them to cut some old inky panels. After adhering the die cuts to my card base I added a sentiment from the new clear stamp set called Autumn Boots (31-013).

Leaf Bliss

Hello everyone!

Today I’m playing along in the Color Throwdown challenge using products kindly sent to me by Penny Black.

The combo this week is mustard, orange, navy and aqua -perfect for autumnal cards.

I created an inky panel using Mustard Seed, Spiced Marigold and Crackling Campfire distress inks and then die cut it with the new Leaves Turn die set (51-788). These leaves are big so you don’t need many of them to make a statement! I created another panel from Salvaged Patina distress oxide ink and die cut that several times with the Winter’s Best berry stem die (51-791).

I heat embossed a beautiful sentiment from the Always Thankful set (30-932) – and managed to get spots of white embossing powder everywhere, despite using antistatic powder…

I then arranged all my die cuts – this always takes a bit longer than I expect, but I got there in the end!

Christmas Card Throwdown – Fir branches

Happy Festive Friyay everyone!

Today I’m playing along with the current colour challenge over at the 52 Christmas Card Throwdown using products kindly sent to me by Penny Black!

When I saw the combo, I thought the beautiful new Fir Branch brushstroke cling stamp (40-913)  would be perfect with a blue smooshed ink background. After smooshing Tumble Glass distress ink for the background and stamping the image once, I did something different for me – I filled in a lot of that white space by stamping parts of the beautiful image several times!!

I used a sentiment from the Happy & Bright sentiment set (30-873) and a few sequins and gems to complete my card.

Ghost Kitty Wishes

Hi there!

After  very hot weekend, I was finally able to craft in the late afternoon – sneaking in here just in time with my entry this week’s Freshly Made Sketches challenge using products kindly sent to me by Penny Black.

I stamped and embossed the cute kitty ghost from the Ghostly Greetings (30-594) set and added a touch of shimmer using my Twinkling H2O paints – so difficult to capture in a photo! I then used masking paper to mask him and a small circle before creating a Halloween sky with my distress oxide. I really wanted to create a luminescence around the moon and kitty image so I used a VERY  light hand. This took a while to get right – I felt my first attempt (below) was a bit heavy!

I couldn’t believe that I don’t seem to have a Halloween strip sentiment in any of my Penny Black sets!! But that’s not a problem, because I have a few of the versatile  ‘builder’ stamp sets and I was able to create this sentiment from the Happy Builder mini stamp set (30-973).
