Well today is my last day as guest designer over at the CAS Colours & Sketches Challenge. I’ve had such a fun August – many thanks to the wonderful team who have been so kind and supportive!

This week, the team has a fun sketch for you. I must say that when I first saw it, I was concerned that my take would end up being dominated by whatever I used for the grey panel and my card could end up not being CAS!

Luckily I remembered the wonderful Penny Black Wonky Squares die that I’ve had for a few months but haven’t used…. I cut it twice – once from white card and once from card that I had altered with some Paper Artsy infusions. I inlaid the coloured panels into the white frame and then cut a small section from the bottom of the panel to reflect the sketch. After adhering the panel to the base card, I cut a Waffle Flower sentiment die twice and inlaid the ‘Hey’ using the darker cardstock.

Quite a different card for me, but I think the end result looks quite CAS. Plus I have a card that I can easily send to a male friend!

Be the rainbow

Happy Friyay everyone!

I’m playing along with the current Simon Says Stamp Monday Challenge (‘all things bright and beautiful’) and using Paperartsy stamps. I found this sentiment on one of my Paperartsy sets and it inspired the whole card. Isn’t it wonderful? Words to live by, don’t you think?

I used my Zig Watercolor brush markers to colour the image and then masked it off to create a blended/stencilled distress ink background.

Hi Everyone!

I’m loving the sketch for this week’s Case This Sketch challenge – so many possibilities! In the end, I kept it simple!

I stamped and coloured a fabulous image from PaperArtsy using distress oxide inks. To finish off the card, I added a  Clearly Besotted sentiment to a blended strip of card and adhered it to the card.

Let’s party and celebrate you!

Hi there!

The theme for the current Simon Says Stamp Monday challenge is ‘ Star Light, Star Bright’ and I took a break from my festive card making to create a celebration card!

I bought a wonderful Christmas stamp set from Paperartsy in September as I fell in love with the star formation on it. I seriously can’t believe I hadn’t inked it up!

Anyway, I stamped the image directly onto my base card and coloured it using my Prismacolor pencils. To finish the card, I added a sentiment from Simon Says Stamp.

I’m also going to enter this in the current Simon Says Stamp Wednesday challenge – anything goes.

Pretty Christmas cards

Hi everyone!

I attended my first card making class in the UK for a long time yesterday and it was great fun! Kay Carley was running an all day class for the Craft Barn in Lingfield. Side note: the Craft Barn was where it all began for me many years ago – where I experienced the magic of embossing for the first time, learnt so many techniques and made friends with fellow crafters. I virtually lived there every Saturday and was heartbroken when the owner decided to close. The store was rescued and changed hands before relocating to another local town. It’s now an online-only business but I am glad it still provides some classes at the local community centre. It was sad to go back to Lingfield and see the ‘old place’ all boarded up, but that’s life I guess!

Anyway, thanks for bearing with me and that trip down memory lane. back to the cards…

Kay showed us how to make two cards using her new stamps from Paperartsy. When I saw samples for this class online, I thought the backgrounds had been made using distress inks – we actually used Paperartsy’s Fresco Finish paints. Totally outside my comfort zone but great fun to use and some beautiful colours!!

 For the first card, I followed Kay’s sample colours. I was a bit nervous about outlining the embossed images using distress markers, but that black line really makes the images pop, don’t you think?

 

 

 

 

Kay’s second card followed the same colour theme as her first one, but I decided to try a different palette. Some of these shades remind me so much of distress inks (especially Seedless Preserves and Broken China).

I enjoyed making the backgrounds with the paints – it was great to stamp on the backgrounds and then water colour the images… now I just need to decide if I want to explore this medium a bit more! I particularly like the metallic paint we used for the tree trunks (a bottle may have made its way into my basket!).

Geometric encouragement card

Hi there!

The theme for this week’s Less is More challenge is ‘geometric’ – and this card is nothing like I had originally planned. In fact I was getting some hexagon dies out when I spotted this lovely image on a Paperartsy stamp set and I knew I had to use it. It kind of reminds me of an odd chemical compound!

I decided to turn this into a male encouragement card and so added a sentiment from The Ton Stamps – loving their stamps!
