With love

Happy Saturday everyone!

The theme for the current Simon Says Stamp Flickr challenge is ‘love/hearts’ so I decided to play along using the current sketch from the Freshly Made Sketches challenge blog.

To start, I created a few backgrounds by sponging on a few layers of Tonic Studios Nuvo embellishment mousse. I then cut each of these backgrounds, plus some black glitter card, with the gorgeous Clipping Hearts die from Simon Says Stamp and slotted the coloured hearts into the black heart frame.

I added a simple black frame cut using a My Favorite Things frame die and a sentiment from Simon Says Stamp to finish off the card.

You have a heart of gold

Hello everyone!

Busy week this week, with limited craft time, but I did find a little time tonight to play with this beautiful ribbon heart die from Poppystamps. Super simple card – just a die cut and a stamped/embossed sentiment from My Favorite Things. This wasn’t ANYTHING like I’d originally planned for this die, but I like the simplicity of this card. Think I’ll be playing more with this die before Valentines!

I’m entering this into the current Poppystamps challenge – ‘My Heart’.

I thank the stars

Hello everyone!

As my distress oxides have been out this weekend, I decided to put them to use for my entry into this week’s Colour Throwdown challenge. It’s another great combo (aqua, orange and grey) and I decided to use the sketch for the current Case This Sketch challenge as well.

I used the dies and a stamp from My Favorite Things, but the white background felt a little stark when I started layering the stars. That’s an unusual thing for me to say really as CAS is usually my go to/comfort zone! In the end, I decided to  use a Hero Arts stencil to add a little interest!

You are loved – a lot

Hi everyone!

There’s such a cute sketch over at the Freshly Made Sketches challenge this week. My card was really quick to make – in fact it took me much longer to find a heart die that was broadly similar in shape to the Simply Graphic leafy heart die that I wanted to use.

I ended up using a Memory Box heart die to cut some red cardstock and then adhered the leafy heart cut from gold glitter paper. The sentiment is by My Favorite Things.

Newton’s Feathers

Happy Friyay everyone!

I stumbled across a new challenge this week – the Twofer challenge. Basically we need to make two different cards for two different occasions using the same stamps and/or dies…. Interesting!

The January challenge theme is ‘feathers’. Perfect opportunity to dust down my Newton’s Birthday Flutter set which I have had in my craft room for YEARS but have never used. Whyever not? It is such a cute set…

Anyway, my first occasion was birthday and I used the cheeky Newton’s sentiment! I coloured all the images with my Twinkling H2Os and then masked them off whilst I blended some distress ink into the background. In hindsight, I really should have coloured the cat orange like my mum’s sweet cat who loves stalking birds!

My second occasion is ‘missing you’. Once again I coloured all the images with my Twinkling H2Os and then masked them off before doing some ink smooshing! I cut the image using a My Favourite Things stax die. When I popped it onto the Kraft card, I felt ‘something’ was missing, so I embossed a frame using a larger die from the set – I really quite like how this turned out.

Anyway, I’m also entering these cards into the current Simon Says Stamp Monday challenge (birds of a feather)

Colourful Penguin Parade

Hi Everyone!

‘No more layering stamps’. That’s what I told myself in September. Don’t get me wrong I love them. Probably too much as I have quite a few sets in my cupboard that I have used for one card….

My resolve cracked at the end of last month when my local craft store had the gorgeous Hero Arts Baby Penguin set on offer for Black Friday. I loved it when I saw it in the Hero Arts winter catalogue and I still love it!

Anyway, I finally inked it up today! It’s been a while since I made a rainbow card so I pulled out my Altenew ink sets – my ‘go to’ for the layering stamps. This is actually my second attempt – the first one included a yellow penguin, but quite honestly it just looked weird. And I didn’t like the background I created. So, I stamped all the penguins again! I used stencils by Echo Park Paper Co and My Favorite Things for the background and then spent I while wondering what to do about the sentiment….

Then it dawned on me – I could incorporate yellow in another way! I stamped the sentiment banner on yellow cardstock and called the card finished!
