Christmas in July 2023 – Day 25

Hello everyone!

Welcome to Day 25 of LucieG’s Christmas in July 2023! Today I’m playing along with this week’s Just Add Ink sketch challenge.

I had originally intended to colour a background stamp for this card but when I was going through my cling stamps, I spotted this cute Hero Arts set called Merriest Christmas Wish from 2011! Back in the day, there were no ‘clam shell’ stamp positioners and I never managed to get a decent impression using a clear block. So it languished at the back of my cupboard… until today!

I used Villainous Potion distress oxide – and was very relieved to discover some cardstock that matched the colour so well!

The sentiment is from the same set.

Heat embossed heart

Happy Friyay everyone!

Today I’m playing along with the Color Throwdown ! When I saw this week’s palette of red, pink and gold, I envisaged a red heart with a gold pattern and knew I wanted to do some heat embossing. That magical technique that took my breath away during my first stamping class! I don’t see much heat embossing nowadays – a lot of crafters seem to be into foiling. It’s times like this that I wish I still had a craft stire near me where I could take a few classes before deciding whether to embark on the world of foiling. Alas my last store closed in late 2019 and so foiling remains off my repertoire until I get a chance to play with it!

An so gold heat embossing was on the agenda for me this evening then! I chose and older Hero Arts background stamp and got busy! Once I embossed the image, I cut it with a Memory Box heart die and coloured it with Lumberjack Plaid distress oxide ink. I lifted some ink using water.

Turning to my card base, I initially played around with a hot pink background but in the end went with a lighter shade of pink which I embossed using a Simon Says Stamp folder.

After adhering the heart, I added a Memory Box stamped sentiment and a few gold sequins.

Distress watercolour flower garden

Hello everyone!

Today I’m playing along in the Freshly Made Sketches challenge.

All older Hero Arts products today! I used the beautiful Flower Garden Fancy die which I coloured using my brand new distress watercolour pencils. I definitely need to practice more with them!

For the strip, I used a stamp from one of my older wood-mounted sets. I had to join up the stamped ribbon to make the strip a little longer. I’ll admit it took me a couple of attempts, but I got there!

Copper snow

Happy Monday everyone!

I had a couple of hours free this evening so I finally got round to joining a couple of challenges again! I’m playing along in the Freshly Made Sketches challenge using the unusual colour combo from this week’s Color Throwdown challenge.

I knew I wanted to use a copper and black background and originally planned to stencil some copper paste onto my card base. As time was not on my side, I decided that using a background die may be quicker – and it was! I chose an older background die by Hero Arts which I stuck onto some copper cardstock. I decided to use the Antique Pine Label die by Memory box as my focal image which I coloured with bundled sage distress ink. The green looks so light in the photos, but it’s darker in real life! Sometimes I find taking the photos so stressful!

Anyway, to complete my card, I stamped a Clearly Besotted sentiment onto some kraft card and added a few kraft snowflakes and dots.

Christmas in July 2022 – Day 28

Hello everyone!

Welcome to Day 28 of LucieG’s Christmas in July 2022! Today I’m playing along in the Perfectly CAS challenge where the theme is ‘Festive’.

I kept my card super CAS, in line with the challenge rules to just use one third of the card base. The stamp is from an old Hero Arts/Archivers set (oh how I still miss Archivers!) which I embossed using glittery embossing powder – the sparkle is amazing in real life!

Christmas in July 2022 – Day 9

Hello everyone!

Welcome to Day 9 of LucieG’s Christmas in July 2022! Today I’m playing along in the Freshly Made Sketches challenge .

I love this sketch! So many possibilities! In the end, I decided it was time to unleash the pinecones! I paired the Forest Pine Branch die with my absolute favourite pinecone stamp by Hero Arts! This little stamp went missing almost a year ago and I couldn’t find it anywhere! It was made worse by the fact that the set was retired and couldn’t be found here in the UK. In the end, my brother got hold of the set for me in the US. And would you believe that the little pinecone eventually turned up in my adhesives a few weeks ago! I was so happy – even though I have a duplicate, I am so relieved that I didn’t throw it away accidentally!

For the background, I blended some Speckled Egg distress oxide ink and die cut a section using a die from My Favorite Things. I then embossed it using the Pinecone Plethora embossing folder by Gemini. My original folder broke in an unfortunate embossing accident last Christmas, but fortunately a lovely IG friend alerted me to it on Ebay and I managed to snag it! Yay!

To complete my card I used a sentiment by Mama Elephant.
