Christmas in July 2021 – Day 25

Hello everyone and welcome to Day 25 of Christmas in July 2021!

It’s also time for another challenge at AAA Cards!  This fortnight we’d like you to create a CAS card using just an edge of your card. Our optional twist is one of my favourites, dry embossing, which is finally seeing a bit of a resurgence in popularity! Hurrah!

I have lots of embossing folders and last month, I spent some time creating a new system for organising them. I used some cheap cardstock to emboss each folder, added a label with the folder name and the plate sandwich needed to get the best impression and stored them on a book ring. It was totally worth it – I’m already using my folders more!

So this was actually the second card I created for this challenge. The first one looked fine in real life but I could not photograph it properly! So annoying as the image was perfect for along the edge challenge. A lot of my other festive folders create more of a focus on a corner, which is one of our other challenge themes and you know I’m a stickler for rules!!! In the end I embossed a section of a Gemini snowflake background embossing folder and added that to my card base after applying a bit of silver gilding wax. I also adhered a tiny strip of cardstock to the edge of the embossed strip. Finally I added a sentiment from my go-to Mama Elephant set!

And just in case you were wondering about the card I had to replace, here it is! This Darice embossing folder is fabulous but sadly I just couldn’t get a decent photo!

My team mates have come up with some beautiful cards which are on the AAA Cards challenge blog. We are also joined a previous challenge winner, Zoe, who has some lovely inspiration on her blog!

Hope you can play along with us!

Christmas in July 2020 – Day 22

Hello everyone!

Welcome to Day 22 of  Christmas in July! Today I’m playing along with the Case this Sketch challenge.

I love embossing folders and decided to use the beautiful Pinecone Plethora by Gemini for my take on the sketch. I embossed some dark blue cardstock and then applied some gilding wax over the embossed image – first time using the wax and I just love the shimmer. Now I want to get the wax in an antique gold, I think that would look lovely for other festive cards!

To complete my card, I added the two strips of silver cardstock and a sentiment by Julie Hickey!

Christmas in July 2020 – Day 20

Hello everyone!

Welcome to Day 20 of Christmas in July! Today I’m playing along with the sketch challenge at  CAS Colours and Sketches.

I used the lovely Honey Been Stamps Let it Snow set. I have had this for a couple of years, but I haven’t actually used it before! I don’t know what’s taken me so long – that snowman is such a cutie, isn’t he? I used a Gemini 3D embossing folder for the background and to complete my card, I added a die cut sentiment by Simon Says Stamp.

Flutterby Butterfly

Happy Friyay friends!

Today I’m playing along with the current Color Throwdown challenge which has another gorgeous combo – raspberry, lavender, green and kraft.

I used a lot of new supplies – in fact they only arrived this morning! The butterfly die is from Paula Pascual’s new brand, Bright Rosa. I bought the ‘Butterflies Border’ set of 8 dies and couldn’t wait to play with it. After cutting the large image from white cardstock, I used a large die from the set which cuts wings/bases for four butterflies in one go – super quick and easy! I then blended some distress ink (picked raspberry and mowed lawn) and a Gina K ink (lovely lavender) to create my colourful butterfly wings/bases. I added a few splatters of gold paint for that touch of shimmer!

I adhered the butterfly wings/bases to the back to the butterfly border and added a few glitter butterfly bodies that I cut using dies from other butterfly die sets. I then stuck the image to a kraft base that I’d embossed using the Seamless Wave embossing folder from Gemini.

To complete my card, I added a sentiment from Tonic Studios and a few green dots.

Thanks for stopping by!
