Christmas in July 2022 – Day 6

Hello everyone!

Welcome to Day 6 of LucieG’s Christmas in July 2022! Today I’m playing along in the Christmas Card Throwdown sketch challenge.

Time is not on my side this week so this was another quick make. I chose the gorgeous Twinkle ornament die by Birch Press Designs as my focal point and added strips of embossed card and Basic Grey paper.

June 2022 Get Cracking on Christmas

Hello everyone!

Maybe it’s because of the long Platinum Jubilee weekend at the start of the month, but I find it very hard to believe it’s actually the third Thursday of the month! It’s kind of ironic that it’s one of our hottest June days ever, but here I am creating a festive card for Jenn Shurkus’s ‘Get Cracking on Christmas’. Today I’m also playing along with this month’s CAS Christmas card challenge where the theme is ‘wreath’.

I pulled out an oldie but goodie Memory Box die called Frostyville Wreath and used it to cut a reject distress ink background! I added the Dancing Snowmen (also Memory Box/Open Studio) and a sentiment by My Favorite Things.

Of course, after I had assembled it, I remembered that I was going to use an embossed background.. by then it was too late (and far too hot in my craft room) to try to fix it!

May 2022 Get Cracking on Christmas

Hello everyone!

It’s the third Thursday of the month AGAIN (!) and so it’s time for me to play along with Jenn Shurkus’s ‘Get Cracking on Christmas’. Today I’m using the trend from this week’s Just Us Girls challenge – the trend is shaped cards.

I know that I have some hexagon cards from back in the day when I had a stack of shaped card bases. Annoyingly I spent most of my crafty time today searching for said cards…. without success. But I did find this tag card so figured that would have to do.

I smooshed some Salvaged Patina distress ink onto the card base and then splattered some Brushed Pewter Mica Spray on top. While that was drying, I assembled my snowflake using Birch Press Design’s Frosty Flake set. Inspired by Caly Person, I added a couple of white layers to the back to increase the depth – love this idea, it’s so effective.

I adhered the snowflake to the base and added a few dew drops and a My Favorite Things sentiment.

Hello Wispy Blooms!

Hello everyone!

Today I’m playing along in the Freshly Made Sketches challenge.

I have coveted Birch Press Design’s Wispy Blooms Contour Layers die set from the moment I first saw it in February! Unfortunately, I wasn’t quick enough when Bumbleberry’s got the new release, so I was waiting for restocks….. until I had a coupon for Simon Says Stamp and my willpower cracked and it ended up in my basket. It arrived yesterday and I could not wait to play with it!

For this card, I coloured three blooms with distress oxide inks and adhered them onto my card base, on top of the three strips I created with Memory Box’s Grape Vine Border. The sentiment is by Hero Arts, stamped in my favourite Frayed Burlap archival ink.

Sparkly snowflake wishes

Hi there!

Today I’m playing along with the Addicted to CAS challenge which has a theme of snowflake.

Although feels decidedly spring-like here today, I have to confess I was pleased to play with the beautiful Birch Press Design Frosty Flake layer die set, but first I wanted to get inky! I had seen a Nuvo shimmer powder technique that Simon Hurley shared a few weeks ago using a gel media plate so I wanted to try my hand! After getting through the first challenge of removing the acetate sheets from the plate, I got inky!! It was such fun! It took me a few attempts to get a feel for how much water to use but I really like the effect! I’m looking forward to playing with this technique more in future!

I added the die cut snowflake and a Penny Black sentiment to complete my card.

Day 19 – 25 Days of Christmas Tags 2021

Hi everyone!

As Tracey McNeely isn’t running her 25 Days of Christmas Tags event this year, I have created my own event using 25 days from Tracey’s event posts over the last decade, as I explained in this post.

Day 19’s inspiration is Day 13, 2011. I LOVED that red background and used the Birch Press Design Frosty Flake layering set for my take.
