Bat and Hats

Happy Saturday friends!

I wasn’t planning on making a Halloween card this weekend, but when I saw the Freshly Made Sketches challenge, I could not get a Halloween idea out of my head… so this morning, I got busy with some products kindly sent to me by Penny Black.

This card evolved a LOT as I played around with the stamps and dies! The bat and hats were the only constant! The bat is from the Ghostly Greetings set (30-594) and the hat is from the Sweet Witch mini set (30-597). I didn’t mask the witch’s face when I stamped the images but then I decided that I wants to add some depth to the image. So, I cut some ovals from black card, adhered them under the hat image and then fussy cut around it to leave a thin white border.

I had originally planned to include two more stamped images but when I started to assemble the card, I decided a couple of glittery die cuts might provide some nice contrast! As I went through my newly-organised dies, I spotted the vine die in the Hanging Planter set (51-501) which I thought would work well – I cut into the back of the glitter card to reverse the image.

I wanted to add some colour to the top of my card to ground the images, but I didn’t want to blend ink as I had done that on my Big Boo card. So I smooshed some Frayed Burlap distress ink instead and added a tiny amount of Crooked Broomstick Mica stain as well.

Finally and I hung the images from one of the branch dies in the Nestled set (51-722) and added white Nuvo drops to create the berries and complete my card.

Festive Cardinal Pair

Happy Festive Friyay everyone!

Once again I’m embracing Festive Fridays by playing along with the colour challenge at the 52 Christmas card challenge where the combo is brown and red. Today I’m using products kindly sent to me by Penny Black.

I’m also celebrating the safe return of my Penny Black Stick & Shine products which went AWOL in my craft room for a fair few weeks! The search has led to a much-needed reorganisation which is still ongoing!

I started by blending some Vintage Photo and Gathered Twigs distress ink on white cardstock and then cut a panel using the largest die from the Dainty Dashes Stackers die set (51-636). I then stamped the gorgeous Cardinal Pair cling stamp (40-912) and coloured it using distress inks and my Twinkling H2O paints. As I was restricted to browns and reds, I decided to lift some of the ink to create the white baubles. This is when I think disaster struck! I dropped some water on the bottom right of my background – creating was VERY obvious long watermark….

I didn’t want to trim down the panel so thought about adding a few snowflakes from the Extraordinary Stick & Shine sheets (15-003), but realised I wanted position the snowflakes elsewhere… so I hid the watermark with a handy sentiment from the Festive & Feathery mini stamp set (30-926) – phew!

Butterfly smiles across the miles

Hello everyone!

I’ve created a card for two of my favourite challenges today – Freshly Made Sketches and the Color Throwdown challenge which has a combo of green, orange and blue.

Lots of different techniques and manufacturers for this one! A background panel embossed with a Simon Says Stamp folder, Craft Consortium paper cut with the Altenew Fine Frames Circles die and Memory Box’s Beloved Snowflakes die, an ink blended butterfly created with my favourite Memory Box butterfly (Vine Butterfly) and finally a Mama Elephant sentiment. It didn’t take too long to create as each of the techniques is pretty quick!

Big Boo

Hi there!

It’s that time of year when I’m torn between creating autumn and Halloween cards. I have so many beautiful supplies and I always feel I never use them enough! Today was the turn of Halloween with some products kindly sent to me by Penny Black.

To start, I created a blended background using a number of distress inks (Black Soot, Hickory Smoke, Peeled Paint and Crushed Olive). I then embossed it with the Dashed Design embossing folder (65-001). I then cut the Big Boo die (51-794) from orange glitter paper plus a few pieces of white cardstock and stuck them all together to add dimension to the die cut. I used tape on the top layer as I knew I would want to lift parts of the orange die cut up later.

I then stamped, fussy cut and coloured three cute images from the Ghostly Greetings (30-594) set using my Twinkling H2O paints and distress ink (for the bat).

I adhered the BOO to may card and then tucked the image under the orange layer, using foam tape to hold them in place.

Although this was all I had planned for the card, I felt it still needed something more so I used the versatile Happy Builder mini stamp set (30-973) to create a stamped sentiment.

Colourful Autumn Boots

Hi everyone!

We had a few days of unseasonably warm weather recently so I’ve spent a lot of time in my garden – weeding and getting it ready for winter. Today I decided I had earned a crafty day and felt that it was the right time to colour the image from the gorgeous Autumn Boots stamp set (31-013) that Penny Black kindly sent me last month. I will confess, I was a bit nervous to colour this image – especially the boots! I just want to do the image justice!

So I tried something different this time – rather than rely solely on my Twinkling H2O paints to colour, I got out some masking paper, masked off sections of the image and use distress inks for the boots and the pumpkins. Yes, it was a bit fiddly but totally worth it! I toyed with adding some coloured pencil details to the pumpkins in particular but decided to leave it this time.

As I had stamped the whole image onto making paper, I actually cut out some leaves and a bird and used them to mask off parts of the image when I created my background with the large circle stencil from the Background Basics set (25-021). I don’t usually do this when I create my backgrounds, but it meant that I didn’t have to lift any distress ink from the stamped image.

Penny Black has some amazing autumn sentiments but I just has to choose one of my favourites from the Autumn is Calling set (30-863).

Merry Little Christmas wishes

Happy Friyay everyone!

Have you noticed that Fridays are becoming quite festive on my blog? I seem to be entering the Christmas Card Throwdown quite late each week! This week that was because I had no time for crafting until this evening AFTER I’d cleared up the craftermath from last Saturday! Anyway, I’m playing along with the sketch challenge at the 52 Christmas card challenge.

I lightly blended Weathered Wood and Speckled Egg distress inks across the lower part of a white panel which I then embossed using the Simon Says Stamp Refracted embossing folder. After adhering that to my card base, I added three little Charlie und Pauchen die cut trees.

The sentiment is by Mama Elephant.
