Hey Pumpkin!

The colour combo for this week’s Color Throwdown challenge is very similar to last week’s – orange, taupe and black, so of course that calls for another pumpkin card!

I found the perfect taupe card in my collection, but it hasn’t photographed well, which is disappointing. It’s greyer in real life.

Anyway, I added a Memory Box pumpkin cut from black and orange glitter paper and then added the Honey Bee sentiment in the beautiful Delicata shimmer black ink.

I felt the card still needed ‘something’ so I embossed a square frame die cut to finish it off.

I carried a watermelon

Happy Sunday everyone!

It’s time for a new challenge over at AAA Cards. This fortnight’s theme is ‘inspired by a film’ and Winnie & Walter is our sponsor.

When I saw the theme, I kept thinking of one of my favourite films – Dirty Dancing. It really is one of the movies of my generation (for the girls at least!) and although I haven’t seen it for a good few years, I know so many of the lines off by heart.

This card was inspired by the scene where Baby meets Johnny for the first time and the only thing she can bring herself to say is ‘I carried a watermelon’. Oh my gosh! We’ve all been there, haven’t we!

I used a Memory Box stamp set and coloured the images using my Twinkling H2Os before I fussy cut them. I stuck them on a base that I had smooshed with distress ink before adding a few enamel dots.

I thought this could be a great friendship card to send to one of my friends who knows the movie just as well as I do and I really wanted to add a sentiment along the lines of ‘I can’t believe we said/did that’ as ‘watermelon moments’ still happen to us all nowadays. But I decided to stick with one of the sentiments from the set for this challenge! I may well replace it with some customised text that I’ll print out before I send it to her!

Merry Making – Day 4 Holiday Die Cutting

Hi there!

I had been looking forward to Day 4 of Online Card Classes’ Merry Making class – Holiday die cutting. And it did not disappoint!

First up is my take on Jennifer McGuire’s background die gatefold card. Rather than use a detailed cutting plate, I decided to make a scene using dies from memory Box, Taylored Expressions and Tim Holtz/Sizzix. I guess it ended up being a hybrid of Jennifer and Nicole Spohr’s card (100% die cutting!).

I must say the timing for this card idea is perfect as I just discovered a load of pre-scored gatefold cards which I’ve had for YEARS! Now I have a great way of using up that cardstock!

My second card for this post features the technique demonstrated by Julie Ebersole – hidden die cut! I first tried this technique in March and I love it!

I decided that the Simon Says Stamp/Avery Elle Stamptember set would be perfect for this. I coloured the image using my Twinkling H2Os and some white paint. The stamp is from an older Hero Arts set and the die is by Mama Elephant.

Spicy leaf frond

Hi everyone!

I’m taking a short break from making Christmas cards to play along with the current Less is More challenge where the theme is ‘hot and spicy colours’.

I used the circle leaves die from Simon Says Stamp on my base card and then stuck a blended panel behind it. The embossed sentiment is also by Simon Says Stamp.

I did toy with adding a few sequins, but decided to keep the card super CAS!

I think this colour combo lends itself very well to autumn cards, so I’m also entering this into the new Simon Says Stamp Flickr challenge where the theme is ‘fall is in the air’.

Merry Making – Day 3 Non-festive stamps

Hello there!

Day 3 of Online Card Classes’ Merry Making class was all about using non-festive stamps. This day was quite challenging for me because I have SO MANY festive stamps- I’m usually trying to think of ways to use them in non-Christmas cards! But I have accepted the challenge!

Kristina Werner demonstrated an abstract background using an abstract triangles stamp and Christmas colours. I don’t have any abstract stamps that lend themselves well to this technique so I pulled out one of my new Simon Says Stamp background stamps and coloured it with my Nuvo Markers. It took AGES! I couldn’t bring myself to splatter gold paint on it after all that painstaking colouring so I moved onto the next part of the card – using sections of the stamp to create an embellishment. My first thought was to use the larger leaves to create a tree, but that didn’t really work well so I used them to create a poinsettia.

Merry Making – Day 2 Holiday Stamping Techniques

Hi Everyone!

Day 2 of Online Card Classes’ Merry Making class focused on holiday stamping techniques and again three different teachers demonstrated fun techniques.

This is my take on Shari Carroll’s paint resist card. It turned out much pinker than I was intending! I use Seedless Preserves as well as Abandoned Coral distress ink! Honest!! The trees are from an older Hero Arts set and I used a Penny Black snowman die and a Neat & Tangled sentiment.
