Advice from a Pumpkin

Hi there!

I LOVE using pumpkins in my autumn cards and over the years, I’ve collected all sorts of pumpkins – dies, stamps, stencils, papers, stickers…. everything really! They remind me of the fabulous displays I see in the US at this time of year. So much fun!

Anyway, it looks like I’ve tried to cram in as much of my collection as possible on this card, doesn’t it (believe me, I have MUCH more!!).

I started with the background and used some Cosmic Shimmer glitter paste and a Carta Bella Stencil – love how sparkly it is. I used a Carta Bella embossing folder on white card and then stamped a wonderful Riley and Co sentiment using the gorgeous Delicata brown shimmer ink. Such a cute sentiment stamp!!

To finish off the cars, I added a few Memory Box pumpkins that I’d coloured using my Twinkling H2Os.

I’m entering this into the current Freshly Made Sketches challenge and also the Simon Says Stamp Monday challenge – shimmer and shine.

Think Big!

The cue word for this week’s Casology challenge is ‘big’ and I thought it would be a great opportunity to play with my fabulous Cityscape dies from Altenew. Alas, EVERYTHING went wrong with this card, and it took me ages to create. I should’ve known it wasn’t going to be easy when the dies weren’t where they should’ve been…. the packaging was, just no dies!

I was sorely tempted to enter yesterday’s HUGE card into the challenge, but I persevered and I’m glad I did! The dies are fun to play with!

I created my own shimmer paper for the buildings using some Tonic Studios Embellishment Mousse. Unfortunately, it had dried up, but I added some water and it seemed to be fine! I also used my Prismacolor pencils to create the background – really unusual for me as I usually rely on my distress inks for that. It was good to practice with my pencils!

I feel I need to add a sentiment to the top right – like I did the first time I used this die set. I’ve seen the ‘perfect’ stamp and it will be going in my basket the next time I place an order!

Fly away with me

So what do you do when you create a blended background that you can’t bear to cut up?

Me? I make a BIG card with it! This card is 20cms x 20cms. But how could I cover up/cut up this:

When I saw this week’s Less is More challenge (take flight), I decided to use my fabulous Tim Holtz/Stampers Anonymous flying witch stamp. I know I wanted to create a night sky/moon background but hadn’t attempted one before. Then, as luck would have it, the talented Vicky Papaioannou did a You Tube video using distress oxide inks to create the very background I wanted yesterday! Perfect timing! Thanks Vicky!

Anyway, I LOVED creating this background. You will see more of them in future, I think!

I made a very large frame for the panel and luckily I have a couple of base cards that were just a tiny bit smaller! Finally I added a sentiment from Krumspring stamps.

Kaleidoscope card

Hello everyone!

I loved seeing how the super-talented Debby Hughes used the Simon Says Stamp Kaleidoscope stamp and she was my inspiration for this card.

After embossing the image in white, I coloured over it with four distress inks (spiced marmalade, picked raspberry, abandoned coral and frayed burlap) and then added a coat of Gansai Tambi light gold. It created such a fabulous shimmer! I’ll definitely be using it more often!

I added some vellum and a yellow/orange panel that I had embossed with a Studio Carabelle embossing folder. I added a Lawn Fawn sentiment and lots of sequins to finish it off!

Yay! You did it!

Hello everyone!

For today’s quick card, I used a Studio Carabelle embossing folder together with a Cathy Zielske/Simon Says Stamp die.

I added lots of Nuvo Jewel drops but felt my card still needed a little something extra, so I added a Neat & Tangled sentiment which I embossed onto black card using some Hero Arts white detail embossing powder.

I’m entering this into the latest Simon Says Stamp Flickr challenge – ‘Emboss like a boss’!

Let’s eat cake

Hello Everyone!

For this card, I stamped and cut some Simon Says Stamp cupcakes which I then coloured using my Twinking H2Os. I stuck them to a few layers of My Mind’s Eye papers and finally added a ‘Happy Birthday’ die cut also from Simon Says Stamp.

Side note: I popped into my favourite cupcake shop last week – the Primrose Bakery in London. I can honestly say they have the best cupcakes I have ever tasted and they always have ‘special’ varieties on the counter. Last week’s special was ‘rhubarb and custard’ and was my colour inspiration:
