Love, light and floral wings

Hi there!

I’ve spent a lovely day in my craft room making cards with some beautiful products kindly sent to me by Penny Black from their latest release, Scent of Spring.

First up is my entry into this week’s Freshly Made Sketches challenge. The butterfly was created using the beautiful Floral Wings stencils (25-022) and die (51-809). I find it easier to cut the butterfly from white cardstock first before using the stencil set. I used various purple distress inks on the wings and then used Cosmic Shimmer Luna paste for a couple of the layers – so shimmery!

For the background, I masked off a square and blended distress ink on my card base before embossing it with the Noted folder (65-005).

To complete my card, I added a sentiment from the Love & Light mini stamp set (31-037).

Lovely Lilac

Hello again!

Don’t you just love it when you get your hands on fabulous new goodies as soon as they are released? My order from Seven Hills Crafts arrived this morning and I could not wait to play with my new Greetery dies and stamps! So next  up today is my entry for this week’s Freshly Made Sketches challenge.

I really wanted to emphasise my focal point -a stem from the new Lilacs Botanicuts die set by The Greetery so for me the challenge with this sketch was incorporating the two strips on the sketch into my design without compromising that aim.

I ended up using lots of white on white. I cut a panel of card using a die from the Macrame Openwork Base Die Set (I cut it twice to extend the width of the die cutting) and adhered a strip that I had used with the Aida Cloth Texture die.

Finally I added a sentiment from the brand new All Occasions Script Sentiments set.

Great Day Blooms

Hi there!

The palette for this week’s Color Throwdown challenge is red, kraft and white – perfect for Valentines! BUT…. by the time I got to the challenge this weekend, I did not feel like making a card with hearts so challenged myself to do something different using products kindly sent to me by Penny Black.

I knew I wanted to use the Beautiful Burst of Blooms die (51-764) as my focal point so started with that before I had decided on a background – which is unusual for me. I used kraft, red glitter and red mirror card and cut/layered the red flowers to the kraft stems.

This is when I hit a bit of a creative block – kraft is one of the palette colours but a stem alone didn’t feel enough. But I hadn’t darkened it before adheing the flowers so thought it wouldn’t stand out against a kraft background… Fortunately, after a while I reminded myself that I never have the same quandary when I’m working with white stems and a white background. So I pulled out some kraft card for a base!

I embossed it with one of my favourite folders – Encircle (51-009) and then lightly rubbed some white ink to highlight the embossing.

To complete my card, I added a sentiment from the Enliven mini stamp set (30-705) and a few gems.

Happy Valentine’s Day 2024

Happy Heart Day everyone!

I’ve been keen to play with the Poppystamps Nordic Bird die set again (see disclaimer below) and so I started with that as my focal point. Once again, I cut the bird from glitter card and coloured it with alcohol markers.

I decided to perch him on the beautiful Serafina Heart – an older Memory Box die from 2012, still one of my favourites!

I was originally planning to create a white embossed background but suddenly decided to use the die from the pretty Meadowblossom Frame and stencil set, which I cut from glitter card.

I adhered gems and pearls to the centre of the flowers and added a Reverse Confetti sentiment to complete my card.

I’m entering this into the Poppystamps Heart Eyes challenge.

Nordic Bird set – disclaimer

I received this Nordic Bird set directly from Poppystamps. We are not sure how the bird from my die set ended up looking in a different direction from the image on the packaging and on the DT cards on the Poppystamps blog!

Heart Week – Day 7

Hi there!

Welcome to Day 7 of Heart Week! What a fun week it’s been! And I still have more ideas and stamps and dies that I want to use!

Anyway, my heart card today is my entry for this week’s challenge at Freshly Made Sketches.

I stated by creating an ombre ink blended panel using Salvaged Patina, Peacock Feathers and Unchartered Mariner distress oxide inks. I cut a large heart using an old Ellen Hutson die set and then cut smaller hearts from two Memory Box dies – Bundle Heart and Tender Heart. I have to confess it took me a LONG time to arrange all those hearts!

I cut a small section of a Studio Light border die and adhered it to my card base before adding the heart and finally a sentiment by My Favorite Things.

Heart Week – Day 6

Hi there!

Welcome to Day 6 of Heart Week!

My heart card today is my entry for the colour challenge at the Color Throwdown which has a palette of blue, lime and brown.

My focal point today is one of my oldest Simon Says Stamp die sets – the Heart Wreath die which dates from 2014! I can’t believe this die is ten years old! I can’t remember when I bought it but I do know I’ve had it a while.. maybe eight years or so. I went back into the Simons gallery to get some inspiration and found this beautiful card by the talented Debby Hughes.

I coloured the wreath, leaves and hearts with distress inks and cut a vellum tag using a die from the Stitched Banners set. I adhered everything to a background that I’d stamped with a 2018 stamp (Modern Rose Blooms). I then added a Poppystamps sentiment (Doodle Happy Valentine’s Day) and a sprig by Memory Box (Sylvan Sprig).
